Call of Duty League Championships – Day 1 Preview
CDL Championships
Starting next week is the inaugural Call of Duty League Championships. The first day sees both losers bracket round one matchups, here’s my analysis of the games and my betting predictions.
OpTic Gaming Los Angeles vs Los Angeles Guerrillas
OpTic Gaming Los Angeles definitely have the talent to make an excellent losers bracket run this year. They feature two players who completed an extraordinary run last year in Kenny and Slasher who we’re playing for 100 Thieves at the time. The addition of Drazah and Hollow to the team has also improved them and made OGLA a better squad overall, however it is hard to predict if the pressure of the championship weekend will affect the newcomers.
The Los Angeles Guerrillas have been one of the worst teams in the league all season and will need to make some major changes if they are to beat OGLA to avoid going home after their first game at the Call of Duty League Championships. While they have taken teams such as Atlanta FaZe to a game five and beaten the Chicago Huntsmen, LAG haven’t been consistent and for that reason it is impossible to favour them in this matchup.
Prediction
OpTic Gaming also have experienced players who will come alive on the Championship Weekend. Along with that OGLA have been a strong team in the latter half of the season and therefore I’m taking an OpTic Gaming Los Angeles -1.5 Handicap.
Pick: OpTic Gaming Los Angeles -1.5, 1.68 @ Midnite
Paris Legion vs Seattle Surge
Paris Legion have struggled in the middle part of the season yet seem to have had a revival in their last event of the season. Their second place finish at CDL London is their highest of the season and this sees them return to their early season form where they won 4 out of their first 6 matches. If Paris can keep at this form, they will be a tough opponent for Seattle Surge.
Seattle Surge however have experience on their side in this matchup. As they are starting in the losers bracket, if they lose they’re out for good. This is something that the experienced Seattle Surge players will not accept and is one of the main reasons why I favour them in this matchup.
Prediction
Paris win the head to head coming out with a 1-0 record against Seattle. However if there is any time for Seattle to come alive it is now. And I believe that the experience will shine through for this Seattle Surge squad so I’m taking a Seattle Surge ML.
Pick: Seattle Surge ML, 2.82 @ Midnite
