Call of Duty League New York- Day 2 Preview
CDL New York
Yesterday we went 4/4 getting all predictions correct! Today at CDL New York there are some slightly harder to call games, but they’ll definitely be interesting to watch. So let’s take a look at the matchups, odds and my prediction.
Atlanta FaZe vs Toronto Ultra
Atlanta FaZe took down the Los Angeles Guerrillas 3-1 in their first game of CDL New York. However, this could’ve been a 3-0. FaZe lost a 4v2 in round 5 of the Search and Destroy, this saw the score go to 3-2 instead of what could’ve been 4-1. This was an extremely influential round and resulted in them losing map 2. The MVP for this matchup had to be aBeZy. He dropped 101 kills, the most in any series last night and finished with a 1.17 overall K/D. aBeZy played exceptionally well and will be looking to take this form into tonight’s games.
Toronto Ultra had a close series against the Paris legion, coming out on top 3-1. They dominated the first Hardpoint winning 250-189 with Bance, Cammy and Methodz all dropping over 30 kills. This new meta seems to have improved Toronto as they return to their previous Semi-Final reaching form. They looked shaky in SnD, relying on Bance to get 4 kills in the first round before losing 6-3. However, that was Toronto’s first St. Petrograd SnD of the season, so maybe it will be a map they veto more often now.
While Atlanta FaZe are heavy favourites, this is a game which I can see going all the way. This is exactly what happened in their previous matchup, with FaZe taking the series 3-2. This new meta seems to favour both teams, with FaZe running 4 AR’s and Toronto running 3, this will be an extremely AR heavy matchup which I see FaZe winning. Because this may go all the way, or FaZe could dominate, I’m taking Atlanta FaZe ML.
Pick: Atlanta FaZe ML, 1.26 @ Midnite
New York Subliners vs Chicago Huntsmen
New York Subliners provided an exceptional display against the Minnesota Rokkr winning 3-1 to end the night at CDL New York. Dominant Hardpoints saw them win 250-144 and 250-157 to win the series 3-1 after losing the Domination in the final seconds. Mack continued to perform at the highest standard finishing the series with a 1.51 overall K/D, the highest of the night. New York were also the only team to have all five players finish with a positive overall K/D with the lowest being 1.11.
The Chicago Huntsmen went 1-0 down in their series against the London Royal Ravens before bouncing back to win the series 3-1. A dominant display on Piccadilly SnD saw them win 6-2 to tie the series 1-1. Following this came comfortable victories in both maps 3 and 4 to take the series win. Arcitys was the MVP in this series, finishing with a 1.36 overall K/D and dropping a massive 35 kills in map 4.
Yet again this is a series that could go all the way. Previous matchups have seen Chicago come out on top twice to New York’s one win, giving them an 8-5 map record. Both of Chicago’s victories have come in a 3-1 fashion, however this new meta could push the series to a game five. Because of this, I’m taking Chicago Huntsmen ML.
Pick: Chicago Huntsmen ML, 1.74 @ Midnite
Los Angeles Guerrillas vs Paris Legion
The Los Angeles Guerrillas lost 3-1 to Atlanta FaZe last night at CDL New York, but they did show some promise. Blazt and Decemate both achieved over a 1.10 K/D, with Saints not far behind with a 0.99. Search and Destroy was the mode which LAG performed in, winning 6-4 however this was helped by some FaZe mistakes that cost them rounds.
Paris Legion were dominated by Toronto Ultra losing the series 3-1. They won the Search and Destroy comfortably at 6-3, however that was all they could do. A close map 4 saw them lose 250-237 as they couldn’t break the Toronto setup early enough. With only two players going positive for Paris in Zed and Denz both only by 2 kills. They will need to improve their slaying if they are to take down the Guerrillas.
These two have never matched up in the CDL yet, their only match being an exhibition where LAG won 3-1. However, I expect the result to be the same here. Paris Legion definitely have the upper hand in Domination, but LAG are favoured in both Hardpoint and SnD. So I’m taking a Los Angeles Guerrillas -1.5 Handicap.
Pick: Los Angeles Guerrillas -1.5, 1.87 @ Midnite
Minnesota Rokkr vs London Royal Ravens
Minnesota Rokkr had a tough game against New York Subliners, losing 3-1 only being able to win the Domination. Surprisingly, Asim was the only player to go positive on the Rokkr side, this may be due to the new meta and shift to an M4 for him. The rest of the team went negative as they were outslayed by a dominant New York side.
London Royal Ravens took map 1 against Chicago winning 250-201 on Gun Runner, a map which is surely becoming one of their favourites. Wuskin, Skrapz and Dylan all achieved over 30 kills in map one with Wuskin and Skrapz finishing the series with 1.26 and 1.14 overall K/D’s respectively. Skrapz seems to have converted to the M4 with ease as he performed at a higher standard than usual against a strong Chicago Huntsmen.
While these two teams have never matched up before, London definitely have the advantage. The Rokkr have provided many lacklustre performances recently and continue to underperform. The London Royal Ravens should take this game in 4, winning 3-1 or 3-0. Therefore I’m taking a -1.5 Handicap for the London Royal Ravens.
Pick: London Royal Ravens -1.5, 2.08 @ Midnite
