Rocket LeagueSamsung Odyssey League is set to kick off on Friday, July 23, with ten regional European qualifiers. Ran by a prominent South Korean multinational conglomerate, Samsung, the Samsung Odyssey will offer lesser-known European Rocket League teams to compete for the lion’s share of the €25,000 prize pool and a chance to get spotted by major esports brands.
Samsung announced the Rocket League Odyssey League at the start of July as a follow-up esports tournament to the Odyssey League for Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds in 2020. Samsung will look to build on the success it has had with the PUBG tournament by expanding its presence into the Rocket League scene.
The Odyssey League PUBG tournament was a two-day tournament on December 5-6, 2020. It featured 16 European teams who secured their spot at the competition via one of eight regional qualifiers.
The idea behind Odyssey League is to give amateur players a chance to compete in a prover competitive environment. And consequently, provide them with an opportunity to gain recognition in the esports scene.
The Odyssey League PUBG tournament was won by a Finnish team, Morning Shift, which featured already established names in the PUBG scene.
For the runner-up team, Redline, winning silver at the Odyssey League, opened the doors into the highest level of the PUBG competitive scene. Similarly, finishing fourth with Vikurvi has seen Miloslav “PiXeL1K” Feik get picked up by Digital Athletics, where he has been playing since.
The Rocket League Odyssey League will kick off on Friday, 23, with the open regional qualifiers. Anyone can sign up their team for the open qualifiers; however, they must do so before the deadline.
The sign-ups are available on the Odyssey League website. There you can find the deadlines for each regional qualifier:
The Rocket League Odyssey League qualifiers will take place between July 23 – August 2. The top teams from their respective regions will then advance into the Regional Finals, slated for August 7-15.
Open qualifiers will use a double-elimination, best-of-five (BO5) format. The top four teams will advance into the Regional Finals, where a single-elimination BO5 format will be in place.
After the Regional Finals, the Odyssey League will enter the tournament’s final stage – the European Finals. The finals will be divided into Group Stage (August 27) and Top-four Finals (August 29).
The European Finals will divide teams into round-robin Bo3 groups of five. The top two teams from each group will advance into the finals, which will feature a double-elimination BO5 format for all its matches.
The teams will compete for the lion’s share of the €25,000 prize pool, distributed between the top-four squads. The champions will pocket €15,000 in tournament winnings, while the runners-up will receive a €7,500 consolation prize.
The third-placed team will be awarded €1,750 for their efforts. The last-placed team of the Odyssey League Top-Four Finals will receive €750.
While the regional qualifiers are open to anyone, the players and teams need to follow specific rules to be eligible to compete at the tournament. All players need to have an active PSN, XBOX Live, Steam or EpicGames accounts, and Rocket League game access.
The players must be over the age of majority in their jurisdiction or permanent legal residence at the time of entry. Those who have not reached the age of majority at the time of sign-up must obtain the permission of their parents or legal guardian.
All participating Rocket League players must register for the esports tournament with their FACEIT accounts. Each player is eligible for only one entry into the tournament.
Players are only eligible to enter the tournament as a team of three. Since the competition uses regional qualifiers, at least two team members must be legal residents of the countries targeted by each regional qualifier.
The team must also appoint the captain or “Team Representative,” while the members may not be affiliated with more than one team at any given time.
