Where To Bet on LoL Online

League of Legends is perhaps the most popular MOBA title on the planet, developed and published by gaming giant Riot Games in 2009. Competitions are truly global by definition and are all organised to the highest of levels from Riot Games itself, with at least 20 major tournaments taking place every single year at a variety of times. With so much happening on the League of Legends esports scene, it’s no wonder that so many esports bookies offer betting markets on the title.

Our expert, unbiased reviews of each LoL betting site makes sportsbook comparison a breeze. We cover everything you need to know, from bonuses, odds and market depth so you can select a favourite.

LOL Betting Bonuses

With such a wide range of bookies covering League of Legends esports, it’s a pretty competitive market. In a bid to stand out against competitors, virtually all esports bookies offer welcome bonuses and promotions. This is great news for new and existing punters alike, as bonuses are a great way to boost your betting budget.

League of Legends bonuses come in various forms depending on the service chosen. Most bonuses are based on the deposit made to place your bets. It’s common for services to use percentage-based increase on the money put into the service. A 25% deposit bonus on a $100 betting deposit will give you $125 to bet with.

Some services offer a “no deposit” bonus, allowing any registered user to place a bet with real money (because a small cash bonus is given at registration). Smart bettors can use this to their advantage, never paying a dime to make legitimate winnings. This is a rare case, however, and should not be a bettor’s expected result.

From time to time, LoL betting services offer cash-back bonuses. In this case, a percentage of the bettor’s losses are returned to their account.

Also on the rare side is the “free bet”, this is when services allow real bets to be placed at no cost to the user. This is a popular (again, rare) promotional perk, but SickOdds includes any opportunities to bet free of charge

League of Legends Betting Markets

First and foremost, it’s important to understand how to read the given odds before placing a bet. Here is a brief example: Team A is favored to win against Team B at 5.5:1. If you’re confident that Team B will win, then your bet will yield $5.50 for every $1 that you bet. If you put $20 down on the match, then a victory will earn you $110. Pretty simple, isn’t it?

Additionally, there’s a simple procedure to use when calculating the oddsmaker’s chances of a given event occurring. Take the numbers from the above example again. Use the sum of the odds given for each team to divide the side you’re curious about. The result is the oddsmaker’s probability.

Here’s how that works. 5.5 + 1 = 6.5, and 1 / 6.5 = 15.4. The oddsmaker claims there’s a 15.4% chance of Team B winning against Team A. If (based on what you know about both teams) you believe Team B will win, then it’s about time to capitalize by placing a bet.

The last thing you’ll want to double-check is that another bookmaker doesn’t have the same game at more profitable odds. Make sure to take the extra step; you’ll be glad you did.

Here are some factors you can place your bets on:

  • Match Winner
You’re betting on the winner of the match
  • First Team to Get 10 Kills
You’re betting on a particular team to be the first to reach 10 kills in a match.
  • Team to Slay First Dragon
You’re betting on a particular team to be the first to slay a dragon in a match.
  • Total Kills Scored
You’re betting on the amount of kills to be over or under on a number provided by your chosen bookmaker.
  • First Blood
You’re betting on a certain team to get the first kill in a match.
  • Most Kills
You’re betting on a team of your choice to obtain the most kills in a particular match.
  • Team to Destroy First Tower
You’re betting on a particular team to be the first to destroy a tower in a match.
  • Tournament Winner
You’re betting on a certain team winning a particular tournament.

t’s important to remember that League of Legends is a team game above all else. Gone are the days of the solo-carry, when one player could truly lift four others to victory. The game has evolved over the last four to five years, and reached a point that any team is only as strong as its weakest link.

The most impactful players in a LoL team tend to be the Mid Laner and Jungler; these players are less confined to one area of the map than their teammates. It’s the Mid and Jungler that roam around making plays with the remaining three players.

Every team has a different way of allocating the gold earned from taking objectives, but teams that have world-class Mid and Jungle players tend to be the ones that win titles when compared to teams that play around the Top or Bottom lanes.

How to Play

More specifically, the roles are: AD Carry (dealing the majority of damage), Support (protecting and sustaining the AD Carry), Jungler (collecting XP in the jungle, which is found in between the lanes), and Tank (a character that can absorb damage and help crowd control). In Top Lane you’ll typically find a tank, in Middle Lane you’ll find self-sufficient APC, and in Bottom Lane you’ll usually see an AD Carry and Support working together. The fifth player will be the Jungler, who roams Jungle killing camps to gain more XP than the rival team.

Games in League of Legends can last anywhere from 20 to 50 minutes, though highly-competitive match-ups can last even longer. The main objective is to destroy your enemy’s base, which itself is guarded by towers – take down your enemies, then the towers, and only then will you be able to emerge victorious.

League of Legends is a high-octane, competitive MOBA that combines real time strategy with elements of role-playing games. With over 140 champions released and readily available to be used in-game, the main aim is to destroy your enemy’s base – but it goes much deeper than that. Being successful in the world of LoL betting doesn’t require vast knowledge of every single champion, though.

Each of the champions in the ever-growing roster has its own unique design, abilities, and statistics, meaning there’s a real skill in putting together a solid draft alongside your teammates. The game is played with two teams of five on Summoner’s Rift – a map that is split into three lanes – that requires players in each of their unique roles to play together should they want to conquer their opponents.

Who to Back?

It can be hard to identify which teams and players to back since there are so many competitors scattered across a number of tournaments and leagues, but there are key metrics and features to analyse in order to find sensible favourites. Looking at simple statistics such as kill-to-death ratio, average placements for teams at tournaments, and score comparisons between players.

There are a number of specialist websites that are entirely focused on providing statistics and insights into players, teams, and performances at tournaments, and they are a great way of finding a competitor for you to back.

Bookies themselves also provide a good way of simply identifying who’s technically the favourite going into a match or overall competition. It’s important to remember, like in traditional sports, bookies and analytical websites can still be wrong – League of Legends isn’t binary and things such as form and particular drafts can drastically inform the end result of a match. This means that you could, and perhaps should, pool a number of informing factors ahead of placing money on a team.

One thing’s for sure though, it’s better to carry out some research instead of going in blindly and merely placing money on a random team and result.

LOL Betting Season

With the start of 2018 (League of Legends Season 8), practically all bets throughout the regular season and playoffs will placed on best-of series. Some leagues use a best-of-two format (enabling the possibility of a draw), while the best-of-three is also very common.

Playing series of games means that upsets will take place less often than ever. League of Legends focuses on cohesive team play, not individual talent. A recent trend in esports has been signing international players. Koreans often go to China and North America, which often adds to a team’s talent while decreasing the communication level. It’s usually important to wait before placing bets on any newly formed team (especially when language barriers are present).

International League of Legends Scene

International competitions are the biggest (and often most predictable) ones, as the leading teams from each region come together to compete. For the most part, League of Legends has a regional hierarchy because some regions have had head starts over others. Korean teams, for as long as League of Legends has existed, have led the way. The most popular and competitively celebrated player, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, has won three World Championships representing Korea including the most recent event in 2016.

League of Legends Season

The League of Legends season is broken up into two parts called “Splits”, one during the spring and another during summer; don’t take too much time looking at a league’s standings when placing bets because the tables can shift dramatically week by week. It’s more important to spend time watching the way each team plays or listening to analysts that give insight on how the team is operating (whether it’s winning or losing). Take a look at which teams your prospective bet has won and lost against, and consider why your expected result could happen or not. This is called examining the “strength of schedule”.

Helpful Resources

Stat junkies should visit the official Riot Games website, lolesports.com, when seeking to analyze LCS statistics. They provide stats for all of their competitions, so just select the league you’re interested in learning about.

Former players and coaches often become content creators in the League of Legends community. A great resource for the North American League of Legends Pro Series (NA LCS), is Post League Time with Scarra and Mark Zimmerman. Scarra’s channel is here.

Scarra is a former head coach of Counter Logic Gaming and Mark Zimmerman is a former coach of Team Liquid, two of the most successful North American LoL organizations. Their show is useful because they go through each game of each series every week. Post League Time can make up a lot of the hours it takes to watch competitive matches yourself. The in-depth analysis is much more helpful than simply watching highlights. These two always have something to share that the viewers haven’t considered yet.

Twitter is a great resource as well, particularly on game days since all sorts of fans and analysts are watching together in conversation. Twitter provides an avenue to bounce ideas off of other LCS followers, which can come in handy if you’re short on friends that follow the game. Also, Reddit maintains that largest LoL community on the internet. This is another place to look for opinions on teams and players, but beware of some bad attitudes. The League of Legends subreddit isn’t known for its good manners, but there are plenty of avid followers to chat it up with.
