Fresh from a successful Worlds 2024, League of Legends eSports is about to start 2025 with a slew of new events, tournaments, and a super-region to start off the teams per region on their way to Worlds 2025.
With LCS transforming into LTA North and LTA South, respectively, and the League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) giving teams from the Asia-Pacific region to make a name for themselves anew, competition will be higher than ever before.
Most of the regions will begin their 2025 Split 1 seasons this January, including the newly minted LCP, as well as LTA North and LTA South. That said, here is what to expect from the upcoming 2025 season as far as LoL eSports events are concerned:
March 10-16, 2025; LoL Park, Seoul, South Korea
The first international LoL eSports event for 2025 is the First Stand Tournament. This is the latest addition to the competitive calendar, and is designed to ignite regional rivalries and test innovations from all teams that will take part in this tournament.
First Stand will see teams from around the world face off in early-season battles, setting the tone for the competition ahead. The event will take place at the conclusion of Split 1 from March 10-16, 2025, at LoL Park in Seoul, Korea.
End of June 2025, Canada
At the conclusion of Split 2 for all regions, the Mid-Season Invitational shall commence. The top two teams of each competitive region compete for the MSI title. This equates to 10 qualified teams from 5 regions participating in a winner-take-all tournament.
Last year, Gen.G held the MSI title as part of their impressive run that ensured them a spot during Worlds 2024. The same goes for this year’s winner – they will qualify for the 2025 Season World Championship.
However, this spot will only become effective if the winning team reaches the Playoffs in their domestic last split or season. Meanwhile, the second best region in the final standings will also unlock a 4th seed for its domestic league at Worlds 2025.
Date To Be Determined; Chengdu, China
Worlds 2025 is the culmination of the regular season for all LoL Esports regions. Their performances in their respective regions and MSI 2025 (if they manage to win the MSI title or if their region lands in 2nd place in the finals standings), will determine whether they will be part of the 17 teams that will compete for the Worlds 2025 championship.
T1 was last year’s Worlds 2024 champions, and are looking for a threepeat performance. With their roster changes during the offseason, this might be an even tougher task to accomplish, especially with other teams chomping at the bit to stake their claim as the best LoL eSports team.
All roads lead to Worlds, and this year will be no different.
This year, there will be 5 major regions that will be competing for spots in Worlds 2025. These are the LCK, LPL, LEC, LTA, and the LCP.
The first Regional Split will begin on Jan 13 – Mar 2, while the second Regional Split will begin on Mar 24 – Jun 15, just before MSI 2025. Finally, the third and final Regional Split will commence on Jul – Oct, and will be the last stop before Worlds 2025.
