League of Legends is always one of the most popular esports events throughout the year, but there are also events that are much bigger. That is the case with the Mid-Season Invitational, and the 2024 version of this event was one of the best ever.
There were some great teams battling it out for the top spot in this tournament, and viewers were taking notice of the action that was taking place. Not only was a big cash prize available to the top teams, but there was also a sense of pride that every single team was playing for.
The LPL has a history of dominating this event as teams from that league just continue to come up big on the world’s biggest stage. Bilibili Gaming was representing the LPL as the top overall seed, and they were back in the finals and looking for a big win.
Fans were expecting a great final matchup after Gen.G moved on to face Bilibili Gaming in the championship matchup, and that’s exactly what they got. Instead of seeing Bilibili Gaming continuing the LPL reign on international events, it was Gen.G that came away with a massive win.
It ended up being a 3-1 victory for Gen.G in the championship match of this event as they were able to get revenge on Bilibili Gaming for an earlier defeat. This win also gave Chovy his first international win, as he is a player that deserves that honor.
BLG was looking to get off to a fast start in this championship match, and it looked as if they were going to get the job done. Ultimately Gen.G was able to win the first map and that set the stage for the rest of the night.
The only game that BLG was able to win in this matchup was Game 3, and that was partly because they were playing out of desperation. While Gen.G was unable to make this a clean sweep, they took control of Game 4 and wrapped up an extremely impressive victory at MSI 2024.
With the win, Gen.G has now qualified for the LoL World Championship, and they are going to be a force to win that event as well.
League of Legends just continues to get more popular as a sport, and the main international events have become can’t-miss streams. That was clearly the case during this tournament, but especially during the final matchup between Gen.G and BLG.
The average number of viewers during the MSI 2024 was over 1 million, and that shattered the previous record that was less than 850,000. Not only are there more ways to watch the top LoL action, but those productions have also gotten better as well.
During the peak, which occurred during the event final, there were 2.8 million viewers that tuned in to watch the amazing action unfold. While these two records are likely going to fall at some point, the MSI put up some historic numbers.
While the matchup between Gen.G and BLG was a terrific way to end this event, many fans were hoping to see T1 Gaming get a shot as well. That team was just one win away from reaching the final, but they couldn’t get it done against Bilibili Gaming in the lower bracket final.
This matchup did end up setting the stage for the final showdown as it was a matchup that went down to the wire in a fifth game. T1 Gaming will continue to be a top betting pick moving forward in top international competition.
