Last week, the Red Bull League of Its Own 2024 took place at the Accor Arena in Paris, France. This has been Red Bull’s annual event that pits League of Legends teams from across the regions in a special, non-competitive tournament.
Among the participants are T1, this year’s League of Legends Worlds champions, and most notably, Los Ratones, a team of European LoL players and streamers that were recruited by famous LoL streamer and former esports player Caedrel.
Completing the teams were Karmine Corp, NNO Old, Gentle Mates, and G2 Esports.
There were a total of six best-of-one showcase matches that saw the aforementioned teams duke it out on the Summoner’s Rift.
That said, it is worth noting that T1 did not have their championship roster in full force for this event: Keria wasn’t with the team due to his commitments with the South Korean army training. In his place was Untara, T1’s former Top Laner.
However, it made the T1 roster let loose a bit, opting for some role changes throughout the exhibition matches. This led to some unique and hilarious matchups, and resulted in fun outcomes.
One such outcome was during the T1-Los Ratones fight, arguably the most anticipated face off during the event. The entire T1 team switched up their respective positions: Faker manned the bot lane as their ADC, along with Oner who went with Support. Meanwhile, Gumayusi was their Jungler, Doran went in Mid, and Untara handled Top Lane duties.
Los Ratones also had Rekkles on their team – he was part of T1’s roster, as a substitute during T1’s run and eventual championship win. After 36:12 of action, Los Ratones came up with the victory – Faker even fell to a solo kill during the course of the match courtesy to Thebausffs.
Team | Wins | Losses |
T1 | 2 | 3 |
G2 Esports | 0 | 2 |
Los Ratones | 1 | 0 |
Gentle Mates | 1 | 0 |
Karmine Corp | 0 | 1 |
T1, as the reigning champions, went through the wringer as they battled most of the field, and ended up with a 2-3 record, earning wins against G2 and Karmine Corp. G2 Esports went 0-2, losing to Karmine Corp and T1.
There were also 1v1 showcase matches that pitted the solo laners of some of the teams. Most notably, T1’s Doran battled Alderiate, a LoL streamer. Doran went with a Kled, while Alderiate ran a Tryndamere. In 3 minutes of combat, the LoL streamer won.
The other 1v1 showcase matches saw Saken beat Caliste is a Yasuo mirror match, and Tiky beating G2 Esports’ Caps in a Yone vs. Yone mirror matchup.
