The team founder and captain, Adrian “Fata” Trinks, was kicked from his team on Thursday, February 18. The news surfaced following Tundra’s poor showing at the 2022 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Winter Tour Region Final, ushering in roster changes ahead of the second stage of the season.
Tundra Esports were one of the top rosters in the Western European region during the DPC Winter Tour and placed third in the regular season, but things fell apart for the international roster in the final stage of the opening tour.
Despite their strong showing over the regular season, Tundra Esports could not deliver when it mattered and crashed out of the Regional Finals in fourth place, losing to OG and the eventual champions, Gladiators.
Although shockingly bad results from a team that was expected to compete for the title, it appears that the roster was dealing with some internal turmoil.
According to Fata, the team members had previously attempted to kick others from the team to make room for a new arrival. As the team captain, Fata declined all those attempts, but ironically, it was Fata who got kicked from the team in favor of an unnamed player.
Some rumors state that the roster wanted to bring in a position four player to replace Jingjun “Sneyking” Wu, which Fata was against. Then the players went to Sneyking to ask if he would be willing to remove Fata, and he agreed.
If the speculations and rumors are correct, Fata protected Sneyking, but got eventually kicked by the same player he wanted to keep in the roster. The same rumors also revealed that the new signing is Martin “Saksa” Sazdov, who will take over the no.4 position and move Sneyking to no.5.
Tundra Esports have yet to reveal who will take over for Fata, but we can expect to hear more in the coming days. Likely well before the team attends GAMERS GALAXY: Invitational Series Dubai 2022 on March 2.
Meanwhile, Fata’s future remains a mystery, and he is unsure about his future in the Dota 2 esports scene. As said by the former team captain, he will take a break from competitive Dota 2, citing that he does not have enough energy to start from zero.
An unfortunate situation sees Fata kicked from a team he helped found from mudgolems and helped rise to the top of the European Dota 2 esports scene. The 28-year-old is currently teamless and has yet to comment whether he is open to joining a new team, but given the current circumstances, it seems highly likely that Fata might want to consider retiring.
The German support player started his Dota 2 esports career in June 2012 and has since played for some of the top teams in the scene. That includes mousesports, Cloud9, Team Liquid, Team NP, Team Secret, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and Alliance.
Even though he has never hoisted the Aegis of Champions, Fata has attended The International seven times and reached the top-six in 2018 with Team Secret.
Tundra Esports have yet to reveal who the fifth member of the roster will be. Some rumors hinted the team could acquire Tal “Fly” Aizik. However, the Israeli support has was recently seen with TSM, so it’s unlikely he will get picked up by Tundra.
Instead, it seems likely that Tundra will indeed move forward with Saksa, who has been a free agent since November 2021, when he left OG. Either way, we should get more information about Tundra’s new roster in the coming weeks.
Tundra’s first tournament without Fata will be the GAMERS GALAXY: Invitational Series Dubai 2022. It will run on March 2-6 and feature ten teams, who will compete for the lions’ share of the $272,000 prize pool.
The field will consist of OG, TSM, Team Secret, Virtus.pro, Nigma Galaxy, Fnatic, Team Spirit, Nigma Galaxy SEA, BOOM Esports, and Tundra.
