Spacestation Gaming has announced the signing of Donnie “Suppressed” Lopez, who joined the organization’s Halo roster on Sunday, June 6. The roster change follows Spacestation Gaming’s sixth-place finish at HCS 2021-22 North America Pro Series 1.
Spacestation Gaming unveiled the signing of Suppressed to its Halo division on Sunday, just a few days after the departure of Abel “Rammyy” Garcia. Rammyy got cut from the roster last Friday, following Spacestation Gamng’s poor performance at HCS 2021-22 North America Pro Series 1, where the team placed fifth-sixth.
Although not a particularly poor performance, a top-six finish was far below the expectations Spacestation Gaming set for themselves.
Moreover, with defeats against Cloud9 and Pioneers, it became evident that Spacestation needed to make changes if they wanted to be competitive against other top NA Halo esports squads.
The departure of Rammyy sees the end of a fairly short stint between the two parties. Rammyy joined Spacestation Gaming in Match 2022 and has spent just under three months with the team, failing to achieve anything noteworthy during that time.
Most notably, Rammyy has helped Spacestation place fifth-sixth at HCS 2021-22 North America Open Series 9 and 10, ninth-12th at FaZe Halo Invitational, and 13th-16th at Halo Championship Series 2022: Kansas City Major.
Given the lack of success, Rammyy’s departure is justifiable. At the same time, the roster change is a fortunate turn of events for Suppressed, who entered free agency at the end of last month after he got dropped from XSET.
However, his departure from XSET was met with a lot of confusion as Suppressed was one of the team’s top performers.
The addition of Suppressed to the team makes a lot of sense for Spacestatio Gaming, who seem to have gotten its hands on one of the best free agents in the Halo esports scene. Suppressed started his esports career in February 2022, when he joined XSET and has since achieved plenty of success.
Most notably, Suppressed helped XSET qualify for Halo Championship Series 2022: North America Regionals. The team placed top-eight and led XSET to a gold medal at HCS 2021-22 North America Open Series 7.
Since then, Suppressed picked up two silver medals from HCS 2021-22 North America Open Series 8 and 9. But unfortunately, the NA squad failed to show up at Halo Championship Series 2022: Kansas City Major, where they placed ninth-12th.
Following the failed run at the Kansas Major, Suppressed got curt from the team and was quickly picked up by XSET, who served as a stand-in for Spacestation Gaming for week one of split two. With Suppressed, Spacestation Gaming placed top-six, which seemed good enough to sign Suppressed for future events.
With Suppressed, Spacestation Gaming will be hoping to bounce back from the team’s iffy start to the season and improve what has been a fairly disappointing journey into the Halo esports scene. And even though the signing of Suppressed seems like a good move, it is not without some controversy.
Another place from Spacestation Gaming, Kahari “Kuhlect” Miller has stated that he wasn’t informed about the team’s decision to drop Rammyy, and he expressed his dissatisfaction about the move on Twitter.
“Kinda cringe, but whatever, people can just lie, not tell me shit and do whatever they want,” said Kuhlect on Twitter.
But regardless of that, the future ahead of Spacestation Gaming seems to be bright, as the team now field a competitive roster. Whether Spacestation will ever achieve its goal and become one of NA’s top Halo teams remains to be seen, but with its current lineup, SSG definitely has the tools to achieve that.
