ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 Begins Soon

Dota 2 returns to action in Singapore for the ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 tournament. We break down the top teams competing and the schedule for the opening day. 

Dota 2 fans can get excited about the next big tournament taking place at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, in just a few short days. 12 of the best Dota 2 teams in the world have traveled to take part in the ESL One Kuala Lumpur tournament and compete for a large share of the $1M prize pool. With the whole tournament taking place in a little under a week, every minute of every game is going to be crucial in this tournament. The matches start on the 10th, and you’ll be able to catch all of the action live on both Twitch and YouTube. 

Tournament Format

The first phase of the tournament is the Group Stage, which will start Sunday night for fans in the States and consists of two groups of six competing against each other in best-of-two matches. Each team will face every team in their group once, and the top four teams from each group will be seeded into a double-elimination playoff bracket. 

In Playoffs, the teams that get 3rd and 4th places in both of the Groups will be seeded against eachother in the Lower Bracket to begin with, while the Top 2 teams from each group will get the advantage of starting in the Upper Bracket Semifinals, awarding not only a quicker path to the Grand Final but also the ability to lose a match in Playoffs. 

Favorites to Win

The Gaimin Gladiators enter the tournament as the betting favorite to take the whole thing, with oddsmakers currently having the odds at +300. Fans and betters alike are drawn to the team after their recent success at the biggest Dota 2 tournament of the year, The International, where the Gaimin Gladiators were able to make it to the Grand Finals despite falling short to Team Spirit. 

Despite also placing in the Top 4 at The International, the oddsmakers are less confident in LGD Gaming and Azure Ray, who sit in the middle when it comes to betting odds, making them enticing underdogs for anyone looking to bet on futures. Only time will tell if the line was a trap or a hidden treasure.
