Disney is starting to get more and more involved in the world of esports, and the company just made a massive investment into a major company. Epic Games just announced that it has received a $1.5 billion investment from Disney, and that is going to lead to some improvements with one of the most popular games.
Epic Games is the developer of Fortnite, and that game is no stranger to introducing other companies into the mix. Getting Disney on board is going to create a huge burst of excitement, and the additional money is going to help as well.
This was not a purchase of Epic Games by Disney, although it might seem like it at that price tag. This is simply going to create new content in the game of Fortnite, similar to what has happened with other companies in the past.
For those that play Fortnite both competitive or as a casual player, they have already noticed that Disney content is featured throughout the game. This was a pretty simple pairing when the initial deal was announced, but it should lead to major changes with both companies moving forward.
Epic Games continues to work on other projects as well, but its main focus is Fortnite and creating an even better version for players. While a rival company, Riot Games, was just forced to lay off a number of employees, Epic Games is sitting in a great position.
One of the biggest questions surrounding Disney has always been why the company hasn’t gotten more involved with video games in the past. The company seems suited for this industry, but it just hasn’t wanted to use resources or money in order to release games in the past.
It has been clear that Epic Games has been leaning on Disney more than usual with the Fortnite game, but Disney now wants to make it more permanent. Instead of using Disney periodically throughout the game, Disney has suggested the use of its major properties in the game.
Eventually Disney could take an additional step by offering esports competitions, but that doesn’t seem to be in the works at this time. Sony and Lego are two other companies that have tried this strategy with Epic Games in the past, and Fortnite has been their target.
The most competitive players of Fortnite are not going to notice a major change as Disney is going to be appearing in the biggest contests. Casual players are likely to see more Disney characters involved, and it could start to replace some of the standard features of the game.
The new investment from Disney has been the biggest news story from this game, but there is another exciting thing happening with Fortnite. Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 will be wrapping up soon, and it appears that a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover will be coming at the end of this season.
New TMNT skins have already been added to the store, and there are clues all over that suggest this crossover is coming. It’s unclear when it will officially take place, but this is something that players have been looking forward to.
The Teaser Tab on the game shows that a crossover event is coming, and it’s going to feature the popular TMNT franchise. Players can now play some TMNT quests as well, and that should get players ready for the new event.
Fortnight and Epic Games always does a great job of teasing new events, and then the game typically backs up the excitement with terrific action.
