Quincy Crew finalized its roster rebuild on Tuesday, May 24, signing three new players in Rodrigo “LESLAO” Santos, Arif “MSS” Anwar, and Arif “MSS” Anwar. The signings see Quincy Crew return to the old formula, re-adding former players who had previously fought under the team’s banner.
Quincy Crew are known as one of North America’s top Dota 2 teams. But even though Quincy Crew are respected in the scene, they are also known as a team that constantly shows up but never delivers.
That was most noticeable throughout the 2022 season when Quincy Crew started well. They won the DPC NA 2021/2022 Tour 1: Division I but fell apart in the Regional Final.
In the final stage of the first DPC tour, Quincy Crew fell against TSM (2-1) and Evil Geniuses (2-1) in the semi-finals and finished the Spring Tour in third place. A similar thing happened in the second DPC tour, in which Quincy Crew started well but couldn’t show up when it mattered the most.
By the end of the tour, Quincy Crew found themselves in a three-way tie with their regional rivals TSM and Evil Geniuses. But despite their strong showings throughout the tour, QC lost both tiebreakers and ended in third place.
As a result, QC did not qualify for the Stockholm Major, missing out on the year’s first international Dota 2 event. This led the team to start making roster changes, which began in late April.
The team first parted ways with Milan “MiLAN” Kozomara and Remus “ponlo” Goh Zhi Xian. But perhaps the most shocking change happened last Saturday when Quincy Crew announced the departure of team captain and former coach Maurice “KheZu” Gutmann.
At the time, Quincy Crew were quiet about which players will fill in the gaps. But with time to rebuild its roster quickly running out, it was only a matter of time before QC unveiled the new signings.
To fill in the vacant sports, Quincy Crew signed a couple of familiar faces in LESLAO, MSS, and Fata, who will take over the no.3, no.4, and no.5 positions in the team. The trio will team up with Yawar “YawaR” Hassan and Quinn “Quinn” Callahan as the only remaining players from the previous roster.
LESLAO, formerly known as Lelis, and MSS are both returning players to the team. The duo were a part of Quincy Crew during The International 10 but left the team during the post-TI roster shuffle.
The Brazilian Dota 2 pro has since played for Alliance until January 2022, when he was cut from the roster. MSS, meanwhile, has been a free agent and without a team, but he has made two professional appearances this year.
He first served as a stand-in for Evil Geniuses during the first NA DPC Tour and was also seen competing with Quincy Crew as a substitute during the DPC NA 2021/2022 Tour 2: Division I.
Fata, meanwhile, has never before played for Quincy Crew but has decided to make a jump from Western Europe to North America to compete under a new banner. Fata was previously a member of Tundra Esports, which he was a part of for over a year, but was released from the roster in February in favor of Martin “Saksa” Sazdov.
With the signing of LESLAO, MSS, and Fata, Quincy Crew now have a complete roster and are ready for the third and final Tour of the 2022 DPC Season. The team will hope that the latest additions will help them overcome their demons, show more consistency, and, most importantly, outperform their regional rivals in TSM and Evil Geniuses.
Quincy Crew currently hold 292.49 DPC points, which sits them in 16th place in the DPC standings. With only 12 teams advancing to The International 2022, Quincy Crew has a lot of catching up to do as they’re well behind TSM (1280) and Evil Geniuses (552.5), who are ranked second and 14th, respectively.
