Since IEM is the first major StarCraft II tournament of the year and also the first global event of new ESL Pro Tour, that has replaced the WCS system, it is as well overflowing with talent. A number of 64 players started the tournament in offline qualifiers, with another 12 players already seeded in the Round of 24.
After two days of group stages, we are looking forward to weekend of playoffs filled with big names, such as Dear, Dark, Maru, INnoVation, Solar, Stats, Rogue, Zest, sOs and Hurricane.
Only two non-korean players have infiltrated the battle for a champion title – the Zerg master and favorite of the tournament, Serral, who has dominated StarCraft II for past two years, being followed by german Protoss ShoWTimE.
On Saturday Feb. 29, there will be eight Bo5 single-elimination matches ongoing during the day, with first match starting at 12:00 CET and the last quarterfinal match starting at 22:30 CET.
There will be two semi final Bo5 matches on Sunday at 11:00 CET and 13:30 CET, after which we will finally see the grand final Bo7 battle scheduled at 14:15 CET.
The winner takes $150,000 out of $400,000 prize pool, which is quite a reward in SC2 esports.
