The PW Shanghai Major 2024 has recently concluded, and standing tall after the intense CS2 action was Team Spirit, who fought tooth and nail to get to the finals. Their opponent was FaZe Clan, who came close to winning it all thanks to a huge comeback.
However, after a grueling best of three match, Team Spirit was the one raising up the PW Shanghai Major 2024 trophy. Throughout the playoff matches, Danil “donk” Kryshkovets cemented his status as one of the best CS2 players currently playing, making clutch plays for his team on their way to the title.
It is also worth noting that this is Team Spirit’s first majors title win in CS2, and their run doing so was a truly remarkable feat.
FaZe Clan brought out all the stops against Team Spirit during the Grand Finals clash. Both teams went toe-to-toe in highly competitive matches and made the most of the Best-of-3 format.
FaZe had the first pick of the map, choosing Nuke as the stage for their first match against Team Spirit.
Team Spirit was quick to get first blood, even with the early efforts of FaZe Clan with a strong opening half on the T side with a meaningful defense of their own. FaZe Clan lost their momentum in the mid-game, eventually losing the map 13-8, thanks in large part to the masterful individual performances from magixx and donk.
Team Spirit was riding the momentum of their Match 1 win. However, FaZe Clan came up big time in Ancient – ropz and frozen grabbed the reins early in the round to give their team the lead.
Team Spirit tried to mount a comeback, with their 4 T rounds were enough to keep the game close, including a pistol round win conversion. But FaZe maintained their composure, and came off to win five straight rounds, tying the series 1-1.
The third and deciding match was settled in Dust 2. donk, who had a huge 1.98 rating on the map, was the clear game-changer in the teams’ incredible series. Team Spirit came out guns blazing on their way to a commanding 12:5 score.
However, FaZe Clan wasn’t about to give up the title so easily – FaZe slowly mounted a comeback that included a 2v4 in the penultimate round of regulation that featured a jumping AWP shot from Robin “ropz” Kool.
But the entire Major came down to a 1v1 with time winding down, and it was Dmitriy “sh1ro” Sokolov who emerged victorious and secured the Spirit win.
Undoubtedly, the MVP for Team Spirit was donk. The CS2 prodigy has been staking his claim as the top CS2 player in the world, and his rookie run so far along with winning the PW Shanghai Major 2024 is nothing short of amazing.
Along with their first majors title, donk has earned the distinction of becoming the youngest-ever Major MVP and Majors winner at 17 years of age, and the highest rated player at 1.49. The previous record was previously held by Kjaerbye who won ELEAGUE Atlanta Major at the age of 18 years.
This makes donk the most decorated player of 2024 as this is his fifth MVP award this season. His previous wins were at IEM Katowice, two BetBoom Dachas and BLAST Premier Spring Final.
