Ladies pro golfers compete in an online World Golf Tour tournament

Lately we’ve seen several unique crossovers of traditional sports with their esports equivalent and there is a rare one ongoing. The LPGA eTour Live, an online tournament where ladies golf professionals face each other in World Golf Tour (WGT) matches.

A four-week tournament emerged from an exclusive partnership of the American Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and World Golf Tour by Topgolf.

Brian Carroll, LPGA Senior Vice President of Global Media Distribution, shared in a release:

“We are excited for this partnership with WGT and Topgolf to present an entertaining and alternative golf experience for all fans alike during a time when many are starved for competition. This new endeavor is a creative way to showcase our LPGA and Symetra Tour players in an innovative online format, thanks to WGT and its incredibly realistic video game technology.”

The competition kicked off last week with a match featuring Jessica Korda and Nelly Korda. Jessica Korda, the world number 16, beat her sister 2-up.

Matches are being played over nine holes, with two taking place per week. The second battle of the week was between The 2019 Solheim Cup partners, Angel Yin and Lizette Salas. Yin won the match 4-up and will meet Jessica in semi-final on May 27.

This week started on Wednesday with a victory of Tiffany Joh over Jenny Shin 2 and 1 at The Old Course, St Andrews in Scotland. In fourth and last quarter-final match on Friday, May 22, Jane Park will face Lucy Li.

The winners will compete in semi-finals next week ahead of the championship match on Wednesday, June 3.

The matches will stream live on WGT’s and LPGA’s Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook channels, as well as LPGA.com twitter account and Discovery’s GOLFTV Twitter and Facebook accounts.
