A German sim racing team BS+COMPETITION have expanded into the Rocket League esports world with the signing of Godsmilla’s Team. The announcement surfaced on BS+COMPETITION’s Twitter profile on Monday, April 12.
Godsmilla’s Team Find a New Home
Sandro “FreaKii” Holzwarth, Bruno Alexandre “AcroniK” dos Santos Lopes, captain Leon “Godsmilla” Mares, and coach André “Xpére” Ruivinho have been announced as the members of BS+COMPETITION’s inaugural Rocket League team. They’ve previously played as an independent squad under Godsmilla’s Team banner and did not need long to catch the attention of the Rocket League community.
FreaKii, AcroniK, and Godsmilla were first seen competing together in February 2021, when they won EURAT February Faceoff and the Elemental Series 2 – Closed Qualifier. After a strong run through the qualifiers, FreaKii, and co. failed to impress at Elemental Series 2, where they finished ninth-12th, but that hasn’t stopped them from making some serious noise at Rocket League Championship Series Season X qualifiers.
Early into March, the German-Portuguese squad finished RLCS regional closed qualifiers inside top-four and went on to reach the semi-finals at RLCS Season X – Spring: Europe Regional Event 1. En route to a third-fourth finish, they beat some of the best European Rocket League teams, including Endpoint, Solarity, Team Liquid, and Team Questo.
Unfortunately, they fell short against Team Vitality, who beat them 4-1 in the semi-finals and denied them and the esports community one of the biggest miracles runs in the Rocket League history.
Godsmilla’s Team’s Struggles
After shocking the world at RLCS Season X: Spring, Godsmilla’s Team went on to win RLCS Season X – Spring: The Grid EU – Open Qualifier but struggled to impress in the closed qualifiers. There, they dropped the ball against WYLDE (1-3) in the opening match and eventually got eliminated by Team Liquid in the penultimate round of the lower bracket to finish the tournament in ninth-12th.
Despite their slump, Godsmilla’s Team received an invite for RLCS Season X – Spring: Europe Regional Event 2 due to their success in the first event. Unfortunately, their run was rather short-lived, as they were unable to make it out of the groups.
Godsmilla’s Team ended the tournament with a 0-4 record, losing against the likes of WYLDE (2-3), Rix.GG (1-3), Team Singularity (2-3), and Solarity (2-3).
BS+COMPETITION Take a Shot
Many saw Godsmilla’s Team’s run at the RLCS Season X – Spring: Europe Regional Event 1 as nothing more than a fluke, but BS+COMPETITION seems to have a different opinion. Although fluke runs are not all that uncommon in the Rocket League competitive play, Godsmilla’s Team have done well enough to earn a tag as an up-and-coming roster with immense potential.
Despite their slump at the recent tournament, the team have kept their spot inside the top-nine teams in the RLCS Season X- Europe Rankings for Spring. They hold 350 points, 311 short of Team BDS, who lead the region with 661.
If BS+COMPETITION manage to keep hold of their ranking for the rest of the split, they will receive a direct invite for the Spring Major. There they’ll face off against some of the strongest European sides for the largest slice of the $100,000 prize pool and the title of European Spring champions.
BS+COMPETITION’s last chance to grab the needed points will come at the third event of the split, which will run from April 15 – April 18. At the time of writing, the tournament organizers have yet to announce the seeding of the teams, but since the event will feature the same 20 teams that attended the last two events, BS+COMPETITION should be well-equipped to make their new owners proud.
