The final Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Regional Major Rankings (RMR) tournament will be held under IEM Fall. The tournament organizer, ESL, announced the news on Thursday, August 18.
The final round of RMR tournaments will be held across all six regions and will serve as the last chance qualifier for the upcoming PGL Major Stockholm. The six regional events will fall under the IEM Fall banner and take place online across all regions except Europe.
The North American, South American, CIS, Asian, and Oceanic RMR tournaments will be played online. Meanwhile, the European RMR tournament will take place in a LAN environment at an undisclosed location.
As revealed by the organizers, the qualifiers for IEM Fall will begin at the end of August and conclude on Sunday, September 12. Closed qualifiers will follow on September 12-16, while the main events are scheduled for September 29 – October 10.
The IEM Fall will feature a $225,000 prize pool spread across all six regions and up to 2,500 RMR points up for grabs for the champions.
The change to RMR tournaments means that some regions will have had only two RMR events. That includes every region except for CIS and South America, which will have had three RMR tournaments in 2021.
Some of the most notable teams who have yet to accumulate enough RMR points to guarantee a spot at the Major Championship include OG, Fnatic, and Virtus.pro.
Fnatic and OG are ranked 14th and 12th in the European RMR standings, respectively. Fnatic have managed only 294 points, while OG accumulated 430; 50 RMR points short of Sprout in 11th.
Both teams have underperformed at the most recent RMR event – Flashpoint Season 3 – where they placed 13th-16th. As a result, OG and Fnatic will have to chase high placements at the upcoming IEM Fall to be eligible for the Major.
Similarly, Virtus.pro have had a fairly unsuccessful run this season. Although they have finished runners-up at the EPIC CIS League Spring 2021, the Russians crashed out from StarLadder CIS RMR 2021 in the last place.
With a top-four finish at the first RMR event, runner-up at EPIC CIS League, and a last-place finish at the StarLadder CIS RMR 2021, Virtus.pro accumulated 1600 RMR Points. Their tally ranks them fifth in the CIS RMR Standings, 850 points short of forZe, and the last place leading into the Major Championship.
The IEM Fall will kick off on Thursday, September 9, with the first open qualifiers for North America, CIS, Asia, South America, and Oceania. There will be two open qualifiers for each of the five regions, followed by closed qualifiers and the main event.
All five will use the same dates for the qualifiers but will be divided into two groups for main events. CIS, South America, and Oceania will play out their main events on September 29 – October 3, while North America and Asia will play theirs on October 5-10.
European teams will have a separate schedule for IEM Fall and two additional open qualifiers. While the qualifiers will be held online, the main event of the European IEM Fall will take place on LAN.
A total of 60 CS:GO esports teams will compete at IEM Fall. That includes 24 in Europe, 12 in CIS and NA, while South America, Asia, and Oceania will feature only four teams.
