Dignitas Release CS:GO Roster

Dignitas announced its withdrawal from the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive scene on Thursday, June 16. As revealed, Dignitas will not field a roster “for the foreseeable future”, marking the second time that the organization will be without a roster.

Dignitas announced that it will no longer field a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster and will exit the scene for the foreseeable future. This marks the second time that Dignitas has released its entire roster for an extended period since 2019.

The shocking news comes in the wake of Dingnitas’ shaky results and the organization’s decision to transfer-list its entire lineup in May. The organization has since remained quiet about its future plans until Thursday when Dignitas released its lineup and announced an exodus from the CS:GO scene.

While a drastic decision, it makes a lot of sense, knowing that Dignitas has not achieved much with its most recent lineup.

Dignitas re-entered the CS:GO scene in 2020 with Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg, Christopher “GeT_RiGhT” Alesund, Richard “Xizt” Landström, Adam “friberg” Friberg, and Håkon “hallzerk” Fjærli, but have since struggled to achieve much. Even through roster moves which saw the addition of Jonas “Lekr0” Olofsson and Faruk “pita” Pita as new head coach, Dignitas’ success was fairly limited.

Since re-entering the scene, Dignitas have won just two tournament titles in BLAST Nordic Masters: Spring 2021 and BLAST Nordic Masters: Fall 2021. However, they have not claimed a single silverware since winning the latter event in September 2021.

Despite their lack of success in 2021, Dignitas entered the 2022 season with the same lineup. But unsurprisingly, things did not improve for the Scandinavian roster.

Dignitas kicked off the year with a ninth-12th place finish at Pinnacle Winter Series #1, seventh-eighth at ESL Challenger #48, and a 19th-20th-place finish at Pinnacle Winter Series #2. However, despite their shaky start to the year, Dignitas have shown some life in the recent months.

The squad did not win a single tournament, but they had collected top-8 finishes at Elisa Invitational Winter 2021, Thunderpick Bitcoin Series, and Pinnacle Winter Series #3. At the end of March, Dignitas also placed third at Pinnacle Cup III behind Copenhagen Flames and SKADE.

In their last tournament appearance, Dignitas attended PGL Major Antwerp 2022: European RMR A and did surprisingly well, but came out short and failed to qualify with defeats against Outsiders, Vitality, and Eternal Fire.

Failing to qualify for the major seems to have been the final straw for the organization that transfer-listed its entire roster just a couple of weeks later.

Following the benching of the entire lineup, Dignitas first explored options of keeping some of its members and adding new faces to form a new lineup. That also seemed to be the plan at first, but it seems like the organization decided on a different path.

Instead of re-building, Dignitas is now parting ways with all of its players, who will now be allowed to explore their options, as will all the CS:GO staff, team manager, and social media manager.

It is currently unclear whether the roster will stick together, go their separate ways or retire from CS:GO. Interestingly, with the release of the roster, it will mark the first time that f0rest will be without a team in his professional career, which started back in 2004.

He had most recently played for Fnatic in Pinnacle Cup Championship, however, only as a stand-in. And whether it’s unclear whether Fnatic will look to add f0rest as the fifth man on the roster, the Black & Orange will likely want to take a different approach in re-building their lineup.
