Group Omega began the first round of their side of the bracket on Wednesday. The dramatics started in the first match as Team Secret shocked the competitive Valorant world, upsetting Team Liquid 2-0 in a match that saw Team Liquid as -1000 favorites.
With the first round coming to a close, all attention turns towards the second round of play, which has plenty of exciting matchups in store for fans. With the second round starting Saturday, we’ll break down the last round while previewing the next four matches in VCT LOCK//IN São Paulo 2023.
Team Secret had a dominant 2-0 against one of the top teams in the tournament, Team Liquid. The first map was played on Icebox and saw Team Secret jump out to a 10-2 lead at the half. Though Team Liquid battled back in the second half, they had no chance of catching up as Team Secret won the first map 13-8. The same occurred on Fracture, the next map, as Team Secret jumped out to a 9-3 lead before securing the map and match 13-7.
Natus Vincere came into their match against KRÜ Esports as -900 favorites, and they showed why by dominating the first map in a 13-5 win on Ascent. KRÜ Esports then jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first half on Lotus. However, Natus Vincere showed their poise battling back to win the map 13-10. Expect Natus Vincere to try and bully Team Secret early to see if they can survive the heat.
Leviatán is coming into this one coming off of a 2-0 win over ZETA DIVISION. Leviatán looked like the -275 favorites they were on the first map Ascent, winning it easily 13-4. The second map was a different story as both teams fought valiantly in a hard-fought 13-11 win for Leviatán.
Team Vitality looked had very strong ups and downs in their 2-1 win over Global Esports. They won the first and third maps (Split and Lotus, respectively) very easily in 13-4 and 13-6 wins. However, in the second map, they got out to an early 7-5 lead on Pearl but ended up losing 13-9.
If Team Vitality can learn from their mistakes and not have lapses in their concentration, they might be able to pull off the comeback. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Team Vitality move on, and I think the +165 line has plenty of value.
FUT Esports is coming into this one off of a nice 2-0 over Rex Regum Qeon. FUT Esports got off to a fast start winning the first map Lotus 13-3, in dominant fashion. The Second map started badly as they went down 5-7 on Pearl. Fortunately, they were able to play a great second half securing the series with the 13-11 win.
100 Thieves absolutely battled Edward Gaming in an intense 2-1 match that saw two very evenly matched teams give everything they had. The first map Icebox went to 100 Thieves 13-10, while the second map Lotus went to Edward Gaming 13-9. The last map Pearl ended up going to Overtime, where 100 Thieves ended it quickly, winning 14-12.
Fnatic won a dominant 2-0 over fan favorites Sentinels, winning the first map Haven 13-6 and the second map, Split 13-7. FURIA Esports won 2-0 in dominant fashion over T1, putting on a performance for the hometown crowd. The first map was Pearl, where FURIA won 13-7 before securing the series on Icebox 13-5.
As of writing, the odds for this one haven’t been released, but I expect Fnatic to be favored, though I think either team could truly win this one. One thing is for certain, we still have plenty of high level matches of Valorant left to be played in Group Omega.
