After the first day of the 7th week of play in the LCK Summer Split Regular season, kt Rolster finds themselves a game behind Gen.G Esports with the opportunity to catch up when they meet on Rift on Saturday. League of Legends fans around the world won’t want to miss when the two best teams in Korea face off later this week in what could easily be the deciding factor in who goes into the postseason as the top seed.
STANDINGS
Gen.G Esports has been in front of all the other Korean teams from the start, currently sitting with a perfect 12-0 record which will presumably be 13-0, barring one of the biggest upsets ever from the Kwangdong Freecs. Gen.G Esports has not only an amazing match record, but they also haven’t dropped many games on their run, currently sitting with a 24-3 game record on the season.
One of the three teams able to take a game off of Gen.G Esports this split has been kt Rolster, who currently sits at 12-1, with their only loss being to the aforementioned Gen.G Esports. Kt Rolster is looking to make a move for 1st place when they look to finish what they started and take down Gen.G Esports on Thursday. A win could put the two teams into a tie creating, meaning both teams would feel the heat going into the last two weeks of regular season play.
With only the top 6 teams from the Regular Season making it into the postseason, there’s a ton of attention on the 6th place spot in the standings. Currently, Kwangdong Freecs holds onto the position sitting at 4-8. They are holding onto a one-game lead over DRX, OKSavingsBank BRION, and Liiv SANDBOX. NongShim REDFORCE sits only a game behind them. There’s still plenty of League of Legends to be played, and any of these teams could make a late-season run to swipe the spot from Kwangdong.
Kwangdong Freecs will have a tough time holding onto the spot as they have an incredibly hard schedule, with four of their last six opponents currently holding a top-half spot in the standings. Those opponents include Gen.G Esports, kt Rolster, and Dplus Kia, all of whom view Kwangdong Freecs as an easy win. If they want to play in the postseason, Kwangdong Freecs is likely to find at least one upset which is already a tough task for a struggling team.
