League of Legends to Be Played at Esports World Cup

The Esports World Cup is coming later this year, and the full list of games has not yet been announced. There have been some leaks and confirmations up to this point, but most of those game titles were not the most popular games. 

That is starting to change of late, and now it has been confirmed that League of Legends teams are going to be able to compete as well. This is an interesting development as Riot Games initially was not wanting to allow these teams to compete. 

TFT teams are also going to be able to compete in Riyadh, and that should add to the excitement of the event. It might still be hard for the Esports World Cup to attract the top LoL teams, but at least the possibility is now out there. 

Riot Games Wants In

Riot Games made an official announcement earlier this week that shared the news of allowing LoL and TFT teams to compete at the World Cup, and it seemingly came out of nowhere. The organizers of the Esports World Cup were hoping that this would happen as it’s going to generate a ton of new excitement. 

This wasn’t the only big announcement made from Riot Games as it was also announced that MENA-dedicated servers are now available. Riot Games is trying to become a bigger name in the world of esports, and it was targeting that part of the world. 

Riot Games is not going to have any control over the League of Legends or TFT action that takes place at the ESports World Cup. That lack of control has some members of that company concerned, but it’s more about gaining exposure for these titles. 

The best LoL teams are not expected to compete in this event as they will want to take time off from the busy schedule. Instead of competing for no points, they will allow smaller teams attempt to win some money and notoriety. 

Now that it has been confirmed that LoL is going to be played at this event, official rules are going to have to be posted. Most LoL matchups are played in a best of three format, but there are others that extend to five maps. 

There is a chance that Riot Games could play a bigger role in the next EWC, but it will monitor how things play out this year. Leaders of the EWC would also have to allow Riot Games to play a role, and that’s not something that is going to come without some monetary involvement. 

ESports World Cup

When the official announcement was made about the Esports World Cup, there were only a handful of titles that were included. That list has continued to grow throughout the last few months, and it has become a pretty impressive list of titles. 

EA Sports FC 24 is expected to be one of the most popular titles at the Esports World Cup as it will be a newer title. Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2 will also be played, and those games are very popular on the international scene. 

While first person shooter games tend to be the most popular with esports players, there will be some other exciting options as well. Leaders of the Esports World Cup wanted to take things back to its roots, and there will be some mobile titles as well. 

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and PUBG Mobile are going to be two of the titles that are played in that format. This list is likely going to continue to grow moving forward as well.
