China’s LPL Back on Summoner’s Rift

China’s League of Legends League is back in action and we have a wrap up of the early games and betting odds for the upcoming ones.

China’s League of Legends Pro League, more commonly known as the LPL, just finished up its first week of play, in which we saw every team compete at least once, with eleven of the seventeen teams finding their first victory.

Fans have high expectations from the LPL teams this year after all of the league’s representatives at Worlds failed to make it to the Grand Finals of Worlds last year. Chinese fans have always had high expectations for their teams, and for a good reason, the LPL is often viewed as one of the best regions in the world. Whoever represents the LPL in MSI at the end of the split will have a lot of pressure to restore China’s reputation on the international stage.

Week 1 Results

The first few days had great matches that showcased the best that the LPL has to offer. The meta sees high-skill expression champs having high priority in the draft phase. In the 29 matches played so far, Fiora was banned in 22 of them, Ryze in 18, and Maokai in 16, with Renekton and Lucian both being banned in 15.

Zeri and Yuumi are controlling the bot lane, both being banned 11 times, with Zeri being picked in 17 games and Yuumi 16. Yuumi’s win rate is manageable currently 8-8. However, Zeri is out of control currently, 11-6, and it’s not hard to imagine other regions will find similar success with the high mechanical champ.
