David Beckham’s Guild Esports Enters Professional Rocket League

Guild Esports, an organisation co-owned by former Manchester United and England International footballer David Beckham has announced they will be entering Rocket League. The team will compete in the newly announced RLCS X starting next week.

The roster is composed of three former Singularity players. Joseph ‘Noly’ Kidd, Thomas ‘ThO’ Binkhorst and Kyle ‘Scrub Killa’ Robertson. The team will be coached by Mike ‘Gregan’ Ellis. This former Singularity roster recently finished 5/6th in the RLCS season 9 winning over $26,000 in the process.

Can They Compete in the RLCS X?

Yes, this roster has Rocket League superstar Scrub Killa. Playing in just two RLCS World Championships, he has reached the grand final in both. Winning one and losing the second by only one goal. However, his teammates haven’t placed so well in their only RLCS season. Scrub Killa spoke on the roster himself:

“The goal for [Guild Esports] is to try and win every single match and tournament we can and always perform to the best of our ability. We want to reach the top, and I really feel this is the team that can achieve this, and be the best in the world.”

RLCS X Schedule

The RLCS X starts next week, with open qualifiers followed by the main event at the weekend. Guild Esports automatically qualify for the main event from being a season 9 roster, and they will be joined by 22 new teams throughout the week. With 10 auto-qualified teams, this puts together a 32 team tournament for the main event. The following week is when we will find out who tops the ladder after the first regional event finishes. And the first points are awarded.

The change in the RLCS means that the league system has been scrapped, instead there is a series of events and majors. You can read more about that change here.
