North American esports organization, Dignitas, is reportedly set to sign Lucas “Santorin” Tao Kilmer Larsen and Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen. The former Team Liquid duo will supposedly join Dignitas as a part of a major roster rebuild ahead of the 2023 season.
According to recent reports, Dignitas is nearing a deal which would see former Team Liquid teammates mid laner Jensen and jungler Santorin join its LoL division. As it was revealed on Friday, November 18, the North American team has already reached an agreement with the two players, who are set to officially join Dignitas in the coming days.
The rumors surfaced just a few days after Dignitas parted ways with its mid laner Ersin “Blue” Gören, as the first player to leave the team ahead of the 2023 season. As it stands now, Dignitas field four active members in support Vincent “Biofrost” Wang, ADC Trevor “Spawn” Kerr-Taylor, jungler Lawrence Lin “eXyu” Xu, and top lane Lee “Hoon” Jang-hoon.
Of the four, support Biofrost is the longest-serving player on the roster, having joined the team in November 2021. Spawn, eXyu, and Hoon, on the other side, have all joined the team in July, when they got promoted to the main LoL Championship Series (LCS) roster from the academy lineup.
Since we’re very early into the offseason, it’s still unclear how many members Dignitas will look to change ahead of the 2023 season. However, according to reliable sources, Dignitas will, at the very least, enter the new season with a new jungler and mid lane.
Dignitas making roster changes to its LoL division makes a lot of sense, as the prominent NA esports organization look to bounce back following an underwhelming run through the 2022 season. Even though Dignitas haven’t been considered an elite team for years, their performances in the last season left a lot to be desired.
On a more positive note, Dingitass kicked off the year with a solid showing at the LCS 2022 Lock-In, where they reached the semi-finals. But since then, Dignitas haven’t achieved much, and even that’s an understatement.
In the LCS 202 Spring, Dignitas placed seventh, with an 8-10 record, and came one victory short of qualifying for the playoffs. Things didn’t improve in the summer split either and got even worse.
Dignitas finished the LCS 2022 Summer regular season with a 3-15 record, which was good for a 10th-place finish. It marked the worst regular-season record in Dingitas’ history, and naturally, it prompted the organization to look to bolster its lineup ahead of the 2023 season.
By signing mid laner Jensen and jungler Santorin, Dignitas will acquire two of the most experienced LoL players in the region, who will likely team up with a young core of players and help them develop.
Jensen will join Dignitas from Cloud9, where he has spent one slip in his return to the pro scene, immediately helping the team win its third LCS title in the past three years. Unfortunately, Cloud9 failed to leave a mark at the LoL World Championship, where they couldn’t make it out of the group stage.
Santorin, on the other side, spent the last season with Team Liquid and, unlike Jense, didn’t even reach the season-culminating event. On a more positive note, Santorin has achieved plenty with Liquid domestically, winning the LCS 2022 Lock-In and the LCS 2022 Spring regular season.
It is currently unclear whether Dignitas will look to make further roster changes to its LoL lineup besides the rumored signing of Armut. However, with the addition of the duo, Dignitas would field a full roster, comprised of three veterans and younger players, which might be the direction Dignitas will look to go for the 2023 season.
