DreamHack Mumbai

Dreamhack comes to India with Dreamhack Mumbai 2018

Dreamhack just announced yet another stop in a new location for their Dreamhack Open circuit; The event organiser will travel to Mumbai in December 2018 for what is Asia’s first Dreamhack location. This is a new challenge for the company as it looks forth to expand into new territories and charter new avenues for growth.

Dreamhack is a Swedish production company which has risen to fame due to its esports tournaments and events. Most of its tournaments are confined to Asia and North America, though its latest ventures have moved into India and Asia to capture new fans and markets.

Dreamhack Mumbai 2018

Dreamhack Mumbai will not be the first big company to invest in Indian esports. ESL has been hosting tournaments in India for the past few years and in addition, there has been incremental involvement in Indian esports by hardware companies such as Nvidia, Steeler series etc.

The event will take place from December 21-23, 2018 and will be held at NESCO in Mumbai, featuring two Indian teams joining two International teams at the venue. Featuring popular PC games like Dota 2 and CS:GO, Dreamhack Mumbai will also have a mobile cricket game and KO Fight Nights featured.

The event has an aim to become much more than just an esports tournament. It will feature top-rated hardware manufacturers displaying their goods at the venue, providing fans with access to top quality hardware.

Tickets are expected to have an extremely reasonable price of Rs. 399 (around $5.5). Although a low price in comparison to usual Dreamhack events, it is quite a step forward for esports tournaments in India where entry has traditionally been free of cost. As companies look to provide more content and features, it is important that they also open up sources of revenue.

A participation with Indian companies

Dreamhack has associated with Viacom 18 and Nodwin Gaming to create and host Dreamhack Mumbai 2018. Viacom 18 is a TV network a joint venture between Viacom and TV18 to host and produce top quality TV content. With esports coming up as a fast-growing industry with an extremely young audience, it has become a hotbed for new investment. Globally esports is slated to reach over $1 billion in revenues and we are already witnessing tens of millions of dollars in esports investments.

Viacom18 has never been one to shy away from experimenting with new concepts, ideas and formats. Given the strong affinity, youth audiences have with our content, brands and experiences, we think this is the right time for us to dip our toes in the fast-paced, thrilling world of e-sports. The world is changing fast and lines are blurring between different content genres. Given the abundance of data that has been unleashed by Jio, it is only natural for the fandom around e-sports to grow by leaps and bounds in India. As the country’s youngest full-play media organization, we want to stay ahead of the curve and tap into tomorrow’s big passion points today. Our association with DreamHack is a step in this direction.
