Heroic Defeat FaZe Clan, Win Their first Big Event At BLAST Fall Final

Heroic edged out FaZe Clan in overtime in the BLAST Premier: Fall Final 2022 on Sunday, November 28, to win the $425,000 event. With that, the Danish lineup won its first Big Event trophy, defeating the former Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major champions.

Heroic Win BLAST Premier: Fall Finals 2022

Heroic claimed the BLAST Premier: Fall Finals 2022 trophy on Sunday, November 27, when they bested FaZe Clan in a best-of-three (Bo3) series. With that, the Danish Counter-Strike: Global Offensive lineup won its first Big Event trophy and became the first Danish squad to win a tournament at the local Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Although a huge achievement for Heroic, it was a bitter disappointment for Finn “karrigan” Andersen and co. who showed up big time and looked rejuvenated following their disappointing performance at Intel Extreme Masters Rio Major 2022, where they crashed out of the Legends Stage with a 0-3 record.

Unlike how FaZe Clan looked in Rio, the international CS:GO roster performed significantly better in Denmark. They ended the group stage with a perfect 2-0 record and a +36 round difference, with wins against OG (2-0) and Heroic (2-0), who they bested in the Winners Match.

Even though the playoffs, FaZe Clan didn’t disappoint, beating Ninjas in Pyjamas (2-1) in the semifinals. But all that was in vain, as FaZe couldn’t overcome Heroic for the second time on Sunday when they had to admit a 1-2 defeat.

Unlike FaZe Clan, Heroic had a solid run in Rio, which had ended with a bitter end, as Heroic lost the grand finals against Outsiders and thus saw their opportunity to win the organization’s first Major trophy slip between their fingers. But they left their wheels spinning and showed up on home soil.

A Shaky Run To The Finals

Heroic entered BLAST Premier: Fall Final 2022 as one of the serious candidates for the trophy, but not many considered their top dogs. The tournament featured some of the top CS:GO teams in the world, including Team Liquid, G2 Esports, Natus Vincere, Ninjas in Pyjamas, OG, and FaZe Clan, but in the end, Heroic finished above all.

Heroic kicked off their BLAST Premier: Fall Final 2022 campaign in Group A alongside FaZe Clan, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and OG, And while they were seeded in a tough group, Heroic hit the ground running and won against Ninjas in Pyjamas (2-1).

It wasn’t the cleanest performance, seeing how Heroic needed to produce a reverse sweep to come out on top, but they looked dominant in map two (Ancient) and three (Overpass), winning with 16-6 and 16-4, respectively.

In the final game of the group stage, Heroic lost against FaZe Clan quite badly. Although they came close to winning on Ancient (14-16), Heroic were no match for FaZe on Inferno (5-16). Still, their win against NiP secured Heroic a spot in the playoffs.

In the knockout stage, Heroic dismantled G2 Esports (2-1) with 16-8 on Mirage, 6-16 on Nuke, and 16-12 on Vertigo, securing a ticket for the semifinals. There they met with Group B winners, Team Liquid, who they bested in three maps (16-10. 17-19, 16-9), thus locking in a spot on the big stage, where Heroic reunited with FaZe.

Closely-Fought Finals

The grand finals, which promised an easy victory for FaZe, played out much differently, as Heroic took the series lead (16-11) on Overpass. FaZe fought back with 16-12 on Inferno and pushed the series to Mirage, but their efforts were in vain.

Although FaZe had their moments, and it did seem at times like they would come out on top, they had to admit defeat to Heroic, who won Mirage (19-16) after overtime, thus claiming their first Big Even silverware.

Besides lifting the trophy in front of their home crowd, Heroic also pocketed $200,000 in tournament winnings, 4,000 BLAST Premier Points, and a direct invite to the BLAST World Final.

“It feels good, it feels really good. I didn’t end up winning the Major, but I think this was the second best for us, to win here in Copenhagen on home turf,” said Heroic’s IGL Casper “cadiaN” Møller.

Heroic’s next scheduled tournament is the BLAST Premier: World Final 2022, set to kick off on December 13 in Ethiad Arena in Abu Dhabi. There they’ll join NaVi, Outsiders, FaZe, Vitality, G2, OG; and Team Liquid, competing for the lion’s share of the $1 million prize pool.
