IEM Sydney kicked off a couple of days ago and has already delivered some incredible matches on the newest title in the Counter-Strike series, Counter-Strike 2.
After two action-packed days of competition, both groups’ double elimination brackets have been played through, and the Playoffs bracket is seeded and ready to kick off on Friday morning with an opening match of BetBoom Team vs. Complexity Gaming and then FaZe Clan takes on ENCE. MOUZ and G2 Esports will be watching along with fans as they await their next opponents.
Catch all of the CS2 action live on Twitch and YouTube. You won’t want to miss the start of the new era of Counter-Strike.
After the Group Stage, two of Europe’s best squads each sit a single match away from being in the Grand Finals of IEM Sydney 2023 after both of them won their Groups’ Upper Bracket Finals.
MOUZ started their tournament with the most lopsided win of the opening round, taking down VERTEX Esports Club 13-2. They would see themselves get pushed in their following matches, going the distance against Natus Vincere and BetBoom Team, taking them down 2-1 in their win of Group A.
G2 Esports, on the other hand, had no real resistance whatsoever in their trek to taking the crown in Group B. The closest game they had was in the opening round best-of-one against Grayhound, where they’d win 13-11.
After that, they took down Complexity Gaming 2-0 after winning back-to-back 13-7s. ENCE wouldn’t put up much more of a fight as G2 won the first game 13-9, followed up by a 13-8. G2 Esports now sits in the Semifinals of the Playoffs without having dropped a single map.
BetBoom Team enters the Playoffs after finding themselves a map short of winning Group A. They had an impressive win over Team Vitality; the team currently ranked 1st in the ESL World Rankings in the opening round of the tournament. They followed that up with a 2-0 win over GamerLegion before falling short to MOUZ in the Upper Bracket Finals.
Complexity Gaming had a good start to the tournament, taking down Monte 13-9 before they fell victim to the G2 Esports dominance in Group B. In the Lower Bracket, they won a back-and-forth match against Cloud9 2-1 before taking down Monte once again in a 2-0 win to claim the final Playoff spot in Group B.
FaZe Clan had a rough start to their tournament, falling to GamerLegion in the opening round 15-19. They didn’t let the overtime loss discourage them, and in the Lower Bracket, they took down the top team in the ESL Counter-Strike World Standings in Team Vitality, winning 2-1.
They’d continue to play well in close matches, beating Natus Vincere 2-1 before getting revenge on GamerLegion 2-1, securing Group A’s Lower Bracket Playoff Spot.
ENCE is entering this one feeling the sting of the 2-0 loss to G2 Esports in the Group B finals. However, before that match, they had an excellent tournament, taking down Lynn Vision in the opening round 13-6 before finding a 2-1 win over Fnatic in the following round. We will see how they respond on Friday morning in Australia.
