Seoul, South Korea – The KeSPA Cup 2024 began last November 30, and teams from the LCK and the all-star teams from Chinese-Taipei and Vietnam have competed in a number of best of 1 games to land a spot on the Qualifying Matches.
The four day ordeal has seen teams fall short in their aspirations to get into the brackets, while others are one step closer to clinching their spot to have a shot at raising the trophy.
This year’s participants in the KeSPA Cup 2024 were grouped into Group A and B:
Group A’s teams had a mostly even spread of wins and losses. The top team for Group A was OKSavingsBank BRION, which had a 3-2 win-loss record. They are followed by the Chinese-Taipei all-star team with a 3-2 record as well.
KT Rolster landed in 3rd place with their 3-2 record, while DRX settled in 4th place with their 3-2 record.
The two teams that fell short and didn’t make it to the Qualifying Matches were BNK FearX, which had a 2-3 win-loss, and Kwangdong Freecs, who finished with a 1-4 record.
Group B’s teams arguably has the most competitive teams, with T1, Gen.G., Dplus KIA, and Hanwha Life Esports trying to land a spot in the Qualifying Matches.
Gen.G was firing on all cylinders and got out of the Preliminary Stage with an impressive 5-0 berth. Meanwhile, Dplus KIA had an impressive 4-1 record for second place, and Hanwha Life Esports sits at 3rd place with a 3-2 record.
The 4th place goes to Nongshim RedForce with a 2-3 record, and the last two teams who unfortunately won’t be getting out of the Preliminary Stage are the Vietnam All-Stars who had a 1-4 record, and T1, who had a dismal record of 0-5.
It is worth noting that T1’s roster who competed in this year’s KeSPA Cup is not the same roster who were holding the Worlds 2024 trophy.
Following their recent roster changes that involved shaking up their top lane, essentially exchanging Zeus for Doran, T1’s team for the KeSPA Cup consisted of Haetae at Top Lane, Oner as the team’s Jungler with Vincenzo as a substitute, Poby at Mid, Gumayusi as their ADC with Smash as their substitute, and Cloud as Support.
Most LCK teams are a mix of their current roster and their academy players to give them the necessary experience competing in a big tournament. Though more competitive clubs have most of their main roster players competing in the event.
Gen.G’s roster for the KeSPA Cup consisted of Kiin at Top, Canyon at the Jungle, Chovy at Mid with Kemish as a substitute, About as ADC, and Duro as their Support.
Meanwhile, Dplus KIA’s roster had Siwoo at Top, Lucid as Jungler, ShowMaker at Mid, Aiming as the ADC, and BeryL at Support.
The KeSPA Cup 2024’s Qualifying Matches are currently underway, and we’ll give you the highlights as soon as the 4 Rounds have concluded.
