Lower Bracket is Set to Start in Kuala Lumpur

The Lower Bracket of ESL One Kuala Lumpur is about to get underway as the Dota 2 action continues from Malaysia

The International may still be visible in the rearview mirror, but that does not mean that the esports scene is going to slow down as the ESL One Kuala Lumpur has been delivering some high-intensity Dota 2 gameplay. 8 of the 12 teams still remain to compete for the $300,000 grand prize, though a majority of them find themselves in the Lower Bracket.

With the tournament set to end Sunday, the turnaround teams are going to have to regroup quickly, as there is a ton of Dota to play before a champion is crowned. You don’t want to miss any of the action, which you can catch on both Twitch and YouTube.

Team Secret vs. Team Liquid

When: Thursday, December 14th – 10 PM ET

Odds: Team Secret (+205) vs. Team Liquid (-275)

Starting off the next round of play and the start of the lower bracket is a match-up between Team Secret and Team Liquid, who both had decent Group Stages as they were both able to find two wins during the stage. Team Secret looked good against Gaimin Gladiators, and though they fell to Azure Ray, no one has been able to beat them. Getting 3rd in Group A shouldn’t be overlooked as the level of competition there is high compared to Team Liquid, who would end up with the 4th seed in a group that finds all of its representatives in the lower bracket already.

Tundra Esports vs. BetBoom Team

When: Friday, December 15th – 2:35 AM

Odds: Tundra Esports (+165) vs. BetBoom Team (-220)

Tundra Esports started the tournament with a big Day 1, jumping to the top of Group B rather quickly after taking down G2.iG and 9Pandas. However, they’d progressively get worse over the course of the Group Stage drawing with LGD Gaming before losing to Team Liquid and Team Falcons. Meanwhile, the BetBoom Team didn’t win or lose a single match in the group stage, with all 5 draws and all their matches ending as 1-1 ties. This is a team that has held its own against the best at the tournament so far and is a real contender to make a run through the Lower Bracket.

Azure Ray vs. Gaimin Gladiators

When: Saturday, December 16th – 2:35 AM ET

Odds: Azure Ray (+138) vs. Gaimin Gladiators (-182)

The Gaimin Gladiators seek out revenge against Azure Ray in the Upper Bracket Semifinal with a trip to the Grand Finals on the line. Both of these teams found plenty of success in Group A, ending the Group in the Top 2 spots in the group. Azure Ray didn’t lose a single match, while Gaimin Gladiators’ sole loss was against Azure Ray. Oddsmakers are banking on the hope that the Gladiators learned more about Azure Ray in the loss than Azure Ray learned about them and that they’ll be able to use the newly acquired knowledge to turn the tides in their favor this weekend.

Team Falcons and G2.iG Await Their Fate

Team Falcons and G2.iG were the Top 2 teams in Group B and were seeded into the Upper Bracket, but both lost immediately, finding themselves with their backs against the wall in the Lower Bracket. They’ll be watching the earlier games with great interest as Team Falcons will face the winner of Team Secret and Team Liquid while G2.iG will face either Tundra or BetBoom Team.
