For the past two weeks, the teams of the Call of Duty League have been battling it out in the Major 5 Qualifiers. Teams have one more week to improve their spot in the bracket before play starts in Toronto on the 25th. No one wants to be one of the bottom four teams who will be seeded into the loser’s bracket from the start of the tournament. You won’t want to miss a single map as the qualifiers come to a thrilling conclusion.
Toronto Ultra (2-1)
6. Florida Mutineers (2-1)
7. Las Vegas Legion (2-2)
8. Minnesota ROKKR (1-2)
9. Seattle Surge (1-2)
10. Los Angeles Guerrillas (1-3)
11. Los Angeles Thieves (0-3)
12. London Royal Ravens (0-3)
So many lie on the 8th seed going into playoffs, as the top eight teams from qualifiers will be seeded into the winner’s bracket, allowing them to take an extra loss as the bottom four teams will face elimination with their first loss. Currently, Minnesota ROKKR holds that spot, but Seattle looks to dethrone them.
Minnesota ROKKR started their tournament with a dominant win over the London Royal Ravens 3-0 before losing later in the day to the Boston Breach 1-3. Last week the loss continued in a close 2-3 match to the Las Vegas Legion. They are massive underdogs going into their matches this week against the Las Angeles Thieves and Toronto Ultra, which is bad news as they’ll more than likely need at least one win if they want to finish in the Top 8.
On Minnesota’s heels is the Seattle Surge, who also sit was a 1-2 record. Seattle’s losses, however, have been against two of the best teams at the tournament, the Toronto Ultra and OpTic Texas losing both with 0-3 scorelines. Seattle enters the final week coming off a 3-1 win over the Boston Breach. They will face off against the New York Subliners and Las Vegas Legion. Winning one or both would go a long way in helping this team qualify for the winner’s bracket.
The door isn’t closed on the LA Guerrillas, Thieves, and London Royal Ravens, but if they’ll need some help. The LA Thieves could easily end the qualifiers with two wins throwing a wrench into things as they face London and Minnesota this week. With so many possible outcomes, the final week is sure to bring that classic Call of Duty drama.
