Oxygen Esports Qualify For R6S Berlin Major

Oxygen Esports is the first Rainbow Six Siege esports team to mathematically qualify for the Six Berlin Major 2022.

Oxygen Esports is the first Rainbow Six Siege esports team to mathematically qualify for the Six Berlin Major 2022. The North American squad earned their ticket on Wednesday, July 6, despite losing to Spacestation Gaming in the North American League.

Oxygen Esports Secure Berlin Tickets

Currently, with 16 points in the North American League, Oxygen Esports have earned a direct invite for the Six Berlin Major 2022, as they’re guaranteed to finish the season inside the top four in the region.
Interestingly, Oxygen Esports’ road to Berlin Major was not as smooth as they made it up to be.

Oxygen’s road through NAL Stage 2 was plagued with close calls, narrow results, and a sprinkle of luck. The North American R6S team collected two overtime victories (against Parabellum Esports and TSM) and two 7-5 victories against Mirage and beastcoast.

Still, despite failing to produce a single convincing victory, Oxygen Esports can no longer then NAL Stage 2 outside of the top four. Therefore, Oxygen became the first R6S team in the world to be guaranteed a spot at the upcoming Major.

Throughout NAL Stage 2, Oxygen have had some ups and downs. They kicked off the stage with three back-to-back wins against Parabellum Esports (8-7), beastcoast (7-5), and TSM (8-6) before they suffered their first defeat against Soniqs (4-7).

Oxygen got back on track with a 7-5 victory against Mirage and added another 7-5 victory against Astralis and a 7-3 against DarkZero. In the most recent round, on Tuesday, July 6, Oxygen Esports slipped against Spacestation Gaming (5-7), granted the result won’t change their fate.

Even though Oxygen Esports failed to produce an outstanding run through NAL Stage 2, they have shown just enough to reach their ultimate goal. By qualifying for the Berlin Major, Oxygen will appear in the third major event of 2022, following Six Invitational 2022 and Six Charlotte Major 2022.

New Challenges Ahead

At the Six Invitational 2022, Oxygen Esports performed well, but they weren’t able to make it past MIBR, and were eliminated in seventh-eighth place. However, they improved two months later when they secured a spot at the Six Charlotte Major 2022 with a runner-up finish in LA Stage 1, and Oxygen did not disappoint.

In Charlotte, Oxygen Esports topped their group with a perfect 4-0-0-0 record and kept their wheels spinning, eliminating Team BDS from the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, they were no match for Astralis, who knocked them out of the semis.

Interestingly, since joining the Rainbow Six Siege scene, Oxygen Esports have qualified for every single international event – except for Mexico Major. Meanwhile, their best result at a Major came in Charlotte, where Oxygen reached the semis.

Now, Oxygen has a chance to improve its performance in Charlotte by taking on the world’s best R6S teams in Berlin.

The Six Berlin Major 2022 is slated to klick off on August 15, at Theater am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, Germany. It will welcome 16 R6S teams from all corners of the world who will compete for SI points and the lion’s share of the prize pool.

The Major will welcome teams from five leagues, including European League, North American League, Copa Elite Six, APAC League North, and APAC League South. European League and North American League, and Copa Six will have four seeds, while APAC North and South have two apiece.

The tournament organizers have yet ot share the finer details of the Major, nor what the prize pool will be. However, it’s fair to assume that the Berlin Major will use the same format and the same prize pool as the Charlotte Major – $500,000.
