Plenty of News Surrounding League of Legends

The esports news cycle never seems to slow down, but there are always those games that tend to be featured more than others. It has already been a big year for Call of Duty and CS:GO, but lately it feels as if League of Legends has been in the news a lot.

The esports news cycle never seems to slow down, but there are always those games that tend to be featured more than others. It has already been a big year for Call of Duty and CS:GO, but lately it feels as if League of Legends has been in the news a lot.

Many of the most recent news stories stem from the layoffs made by Riot Games, as that company produced League of Legends. Players at the professional level were concerned about the future of this game when the layoffs were made, but it seems as if things have calmed back down.

This is a game that continues to have updates released, and not all of them have brought improvements to the game. Here is a look at some of the most recent news stories surrounding the game, including the LCS.

Rough Start for New Legend

League of Legends is always releasing new champions to the game, and players are quick to give each new champion a try once that occurs. Smolder is the latest champion to be released, and this was one that came with plenty of hype and anticipation.

This launch came on the final day of January, and Smolder hasn’t been around very long at all. While that might be true, League of Legends players have not been impressed with the new champion, and it has been a hot topic of debate.

Smolder is a tiny little dragon that doesn’t look powerful, and that has been the case in the first 24 hours of existence. Based on data released by the developers, Smolder has the lowest win rate of any of the champions, but new characters are known to get off to slow starts.

Currently, the win rate for Smolder is sitting at just above 40 percent, which is actually much higher than some of the other recent champion launches. Players are not expected to give up on using him, and it will simply take some time before the top players figure out how he is best suited to be used on the roster.

This will be an interesting story to follow over the next few weeks as the win rate will have to improve at some point.

No Live LCS Spring Event

League of Legends esports has announced that there will not be a live event taking place this spring in the LCS. This is a major disappointment for fans of the sport as it provides a chance to interact with some of the top players in the world.

There have already been massive changes implemented at the 2024 LCS Road Split as the league is looking for ways to make the product better. This announcement did not mention the recent layoffs from Riot Games, but it likely has an impact.

The LCS Championship Event is going to be live later this year, but official dates or a location were not announced. In 2023, the Prudential Center hosted the LCS Championship Event, and it was a massive success.

While fans might have been disappointed with this news, many of the top teams celebrated the fact that a live show was not happening in the spring. Instead, more resources can be used to create a better product, and ultimately should lead to better results for the game.

Teams are already competing hard in the LCS in order to rack up enough points to qualify for the main championship event. This was expected to be a great year for the LCS due to the number of quality teams, and some recent disappointing news should not impact the overall action.
