Preston “Prestinni” Sanderson has announced he is considering returning to compete in the Call of Duty League. The decision followed Prestinni’s solid performance in the final week of CDL Major 2 qualifiers when he served as a substitute.
Prestinnin unveiled exciting news on March 27 when he stated that he is considering returning to compete in the CDL after the second Major. The 23-year-old made the call after he served as a substitute for FaZe Clan, replacing Chris “Simp” Lehr, who fell ill ahead of FaZe’s final match of the CDL Major 2 qualifiers.
Prestinni’s appearance on Sunday marked his first official CDL match since August 2021, when he was last seen playing for Seattle Surge. But despite entering the fray without any professional experience in the CoD: Vanguard, Prestinni showed that he is still an elite-level player.
The reigning CDL champions, FaZe Clan, faced off against OpTic Texas on Sunday in the final week of the CDL Major 2 qualifiers. FaZe entered the match with a 3-1 record, while OpTic were looking to claim their fifth win of the qualifiers to end the group stage with a flawless record.
It was expected to be a close battle between the two CDL juggernauts, but unfortunately, FaZe announced that its star player, Simp won’t be able to compete. He supposedly fell ill ahead of the game and was unable to participate.
In his place, FaZe called up Alec “Arcitys” Sanderson’s twin brother, Prestinni, who has retired from competitive CoD last year. And even though he has not played any official professional matches this term, Prestinni stepped up to the plate and proved all the doubters wrong.
Despite entering the match on short notice with little to no warmup, Prestinni shone bright and proved to the world that he is still more than capable of competing at the highest level. FaZe did end up losing against OpTic 0-3, though, but Prestinni left a very good impression.
By many standards, Prestinni was the best player on FaZe and was so good that he even surprised himself. After the match, Prestinni went onto The Flank to talk about his return to the pro scene.
“The shots that I was hitting today had me surprised. I impressed myself,” said Prestinni.
And after he was asked about whether he would consider returning back to the CDL following his heroic performance, Prestrinni noted that he is seriously considering going back to compete after the CDL Major 2.
Although Prestinni has not officially announced his return, it does seem likely we will see him back in action. That said, it’s unclear whether he will actually compete in the CDL or instead focus on Challengers.
That said, if his performance as a substitute for FaZe is any indication, the 23-year-old is more than ready to return to the big league.
Prestinni was last seen competing in the CDL in the 2021 season as a member of the Seattle Surge. Unfortunately, the team failed to achieve much and ended the season in ninth place.
Prior to joining Surge, Prestinni played at Chicago Huntsmen alongside his brother Arcitys and helped the team claim bronze from the Call of Duty League Championship 2020.
Prestinni is a former CoD World Champion, a title he earned with eUnited in Call of Duty World League Championship 2019, before the introduction of the Call of Duty League. And even though he has failed to recreate that success, Prestinni could try and take another shot at the trophy this season.
However, it remains to be seen which team Prestinni might join, knowing that FaZe likely won’t look to many any permanent roster changes anytime soon.
