League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) franchise TSM announced the return of Wei “Shenyi” Zi-Jie. As revealed on Thursday, March 3, the 19-year-old support has been re-added to TSM’s LCS roster ahead of Week 5 of LCS 2022 Spring.
To say that TSM have been struggling this season would be an understatement at this point. The eight-time LCS champions have yet to find any traction in the LCS 2022 Spring and dropped to a 1-8 record throughout the first half of the split.
Suffice to say, results have been hard to come, and TSM have now found itself in a tricky spot. With only one win from the opening nine rounds of action, the prospect of TSM finishing the Spring Split inside the bottom two does not seem too far-fetched.
And while an unfortunate situation, TSM have yet to show anything that would suggest they can improve. So far this split, TSM have lost to every other LCS team besides Immortals, who they defeated on February 19.
With that, TSM hold the sole position of the 10th-placed team in the league standings, two wins behind CLG (3-6). On a more positive note, TSM are only three wins away from catching up to Immortals, Evil Geniuses, and Dignitas, who are tied in the sixth spot.
Will TSM manage to bounce back and escape the hole they’re currently in remains to be seen. But there’s a lot on the line for the most storied North American LoL team.
TSM has never finished the LCS regular season inside the bottom two throughout its history. The organization’s worst placement happened in NA LCS 2016 Spring and LCS 2020 Spring when TSM finished sixth with a 9-9 record.
In contrast, TSM finished LCS 2021 Spring regular season in second and claimed bronze from the Mid-Season Showdown. Unfortunately, the team could only manage a fourth-place finish in the LCS 2021 Championship.
In a bid to find more stability, TSM decided to make roster changes ahead of the fifth week of LCS 2022 Spring. And the most notable is the return of Shenyi to the starting lineup.
Shenyi has joined TSM ahead of the 2022 season as the new starting support but lost his position in the LCS lineup after the second week. At the time, TSM decided to move Shenyi into the academy lineup, citing issues with communication.
Now, just two weeks later, Shenyi will return to the active LCS squad, as TSM felt he the 19-year-old has made several improvements in addition to communication”.
The initial removal of Shenyi from the LCS lineup was met with disagreement from the TSM fans. They felt like TSM should give Shenyi more time rather than moving him into the academy after only two weeks of action.
However, it was later revealed that Shenyi supposedly locked in a champion during an on-stage game without communication with his teammates and players. After later confronting Shenyi about the situation, the rookie’s actions were considered to be disrespectful and rude, which ushered in his removal from the active lineup.
But it seems like Shenyi has learned from his mistakes and re-earned the trust of TSM staff, who gave him another chance to prove he is ready to represent TSM in the LCS.
Besides re-adding Shenyi to the active lineup, TSM also decided to make changes in the mid lane. As revealed, TSM swapped mid laner Zhu “Keaiduo” Xiong Ji “Takeover” Cha Hyeun-min from the academy roster.
By making two changes, TSM now fields a slightly altered roster, which will debut on Saturday, March 5, against FlyQuest in the second match of Week 5.
