Rainbow Six continues to be a popular game when it comes to the world of esports, especially when there are big events taking place. The biggest event in the sport just started on February 13th as the Six Invitational is being held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

There are going to be some other Rainbow Six events throughout the year, but this is always the biggest. All of the top players and teams have signed up to compete, and the action is going to be fast-paced over the next week.

While most of the action is going to be shown through streams, there will be an in-person event set to take place at the Ginasio do Ibirapuera. Fans are expected to flock to Brazil to get in on the action as they will get to see the biggest stars up close and personal.

G2 ESports is coming into the event as the defending champion, and that team has some favorable betting odds to get that done again. That has also placed a big target on the back of the G2 ESports team, and everyone will be trying to knock them off.

A Look at the Format

Before taking a look at the early results at the Six Invitational, it’s wise to check out the format so that you understand how this event will be played. There is a group stage to begin the action, and it’s going to take place from February 13th through February 17th.

From there, teams will get a slight break as the action is going to resume with the playoffs being held from February 19th through the 25th. That is when things will really heat up as losing teams will be sent packing, and without any hardware to speak of.

There are four groups selected for the Six Invitational, and five teams are competing in each group. Racking up the most points will put teams in a better position on the bracket, but four teams from each group will be moving on.

The playoffs will consist of a double-elimination tournament, and all of the matchups are going to be best-of-three. When there are just two teams remaining, that is when the action will shift to a best-of-five event.

It can be hard to keep track of what is taking place during the group stage, but things get much easier during the playoffs. The double-elimination factor does end up saving some teams as well, as they don’t have to worry about being eliminated with one bad stretch.

Early Results Are In

As expected, G2 ESports wasted little time in putting up a great score in this event as they took care of business against the Ninjas in Pyjamas. G2 Esports took home four points with a 2:0 win, putting them on top of Group A in the early part of the tournament.

In other Group A action, DarkZero ESports was able to secure three points by taking a 2:1 win over Geekay Esports. The action in Group 2 was a bit more interesting, especially when checking out the performance from Wolves Esports.

That team actually lost on the first map, but was able to bounce back and take care of business to get three points. FaZe Clan is a consistent threat to win the Six Invitational, and that team had a 2:0 win over Dplus.

Team Liquid and w7m esports were the early winners in Group C, but w7m esports is currently on top of the standings with four points. LOS and Soniqs both brought home four points in Group 2, and they have now opened up a pretty substantial lead after just one day.
