Call of Duty League franchise, Florida Mutineers, announced the signing of Reece “Vivid” Drost, who will be a part of its Call of Duty esports roster in the 2022 season. The news surfaced on Thursday, November 4.
With the signing of Vivid, Florida Mutineers’ roster now includes six players for the 2022 season. Vivid will team up with Cesar “Skyz” Bueno, Joseph “Owakening” Conley, David “Davpadie” Maslowski, Colt “Havok” McLendon, and Christian “Yeez” Faircloth.
As revealed by the team, Vivid has joined Mutineers’ active roster with Skyz, Owakening, and Davpadie, while Havok and Yeez will serve as substitutes. The 2022 CDL season will be played in 4v4, transitioning from the 5v5 in the 2021 season.
Vivid joins Mutineers as the second signing of the offseason, as the team already acquired Davpadie in October. Meanwhile, Yeez is the only other signing of 2021, having joined the team in 2021.
Having made only two changes, Mutineers are one of the least active CoD esports teams of the offseason, with many of their competitors opting for a complete roster rebuild. That is even though the Mutineers haven’t achieved much over the 2021 season.
The team’s most notable accomplishment happened in May when they placed top-four in CDL Stage 3 Major. Since then, the Mutineers haven’t finished any of the stages higher than top-eight.
Their mediocre showings culminated with a seventh-eighth place finish in the 2021 CDL Championship. The Mutineers started in the lower bracket and suffered an early elimination, losing to Chicago OpTic (1-3) in the first round.
Regardless, Florida Mutineers can be confident in their chances to make a splash next season, how that they’ve acquired one of the top players in the scene.
Vivid started his CoD esports career in 2018 with 3Kingz Gaming, has since played for some lesser teams. That includes OutCold Gaming, Mazer Gaming InControl Gaming, Team WaR, Sage eSports, Elite Esports, and Hybrid Gaming.
The 21-year-old made his CDL debut in February 2020, when he got acquired by Los Angeles Guerrillas as a substitute. He was promoted to the starting lineup in March but found himself on the exit doors at the end of the season.
Having failed to achieve much with the Guerrillas, Vivid left the team at the start of May 2021 when he got loaned out to Trash Bros. Vivid eventually left the organization at the end of May and joined Dallas Empire, who he played for in the 2021 CDL season.
Although Dallas Empire hasn’t managed to defend their CDL title, Vivid has proven his worth, helping the team finish the season in third. Unfortunately, Dallas Empire opted for a complete roster rebuild ahead of the 2022 season and parted ways with three of their members, including Vivid.
Vivid needed only one month to find a new home at Florida Mutineers, where he will take over as the starter. However, with the signing of Vivid, the team now has to decide on how their roster will look like, as they likely won’t need two substitutes.
As it stands now, the Mutineers are expected to field Vivid, Skyz, Owakening, and Davpadie in their starting lineup. This leaves Havok and Yeez in an uncertain position.
Havok has hit that he would be playing in the Challengers circuit during the 2022 season, while Yeez’s future remains uncertain.
More information about the Florida Mutineers CDL roster should be available in the coming weeks as the organization explores its options. Potentially, Florida Mutineers might sign additional players to its roster, but nothing is confirmed yet.
The organizers have yet to reveal when the 2022 CDL League will begin. However, if we go by the dates of the previous seasons, it should kick off sometime in late January.
