Everything you need to know about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

The latest iteration in the first-person shooter franchise has announced its “soft reboot” of the Modern Warfare series. This year’s release is continual with the October cycle that was introduced for Black Ops 4. Therefore, this game will be available to players from October 25th, 2019. The trailer also confirms that Captain Price, a fan favorite character from the previous iterations of the Modern Warfare series, will be making his return.

Gamemodes and new features

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have three gamemodes: one of these being Co-Op, which has been described as a gamemode in which players can team up and complete “elite operations.” This gamemode should somewhat resemble the traditional Modern Warfare Spec-Ops series.

The second gamemode is Campaign, which is now returning. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 saw the abolition of the campaign from the main game completely, to make time and efforts focused on creating a Battle Royale gamemode instead.

This year is expected to be different, there is no Battle Royale gamemode, and the campaign is again being refocused, just like all of the Call of Duty games before it. The setting is modern era but is not a prequel nor a sequel to the main trilogy.

The campaign is also expected to be exceptionally gory and is supposed to contain more violence than the infamous “No Russian” mission in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The third gamemode is confirmed to be multiplayer, which has been a staple in the franchise since its inclusion. The Call of Duty competitive scene will also be franchised for this year’s Call of Duty, and we expect to see a huge take-up from leading organisations and rosters.

There will also be no season pass in the game, which was introduced into the franchise in 2011 for Modern Warfare 3. This means that new content which gets added to the game will be free to all players.

Moreover, this year’s Call of Duty is confirmed to feature Cross Play. Meaning, that you can play with your friends across each console. This will include PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The game will also be played on a brand-new engine. Meaning that graphics and the smoothness of the game will be drastically increased. The game is also going for a hyper-realistic feel, similar to the Modern world.

Infinity Ward is set to step up its game for the latest release. The last few Call of Duty games have failed to reach expectations within the community. This year’s release had to make drastic changes in order for Call of Duty to stay afloat, such as the introduction of specialists in Black Ops 3, which achieved the highest total of players in the last six years.
