Activision have revealed 16 names that will represent their teams at the upcoming Call of Duty League (CDL) All-Star Weekend. The Showmatch event will occur on May 22-23 as the event leading into the CDL Stage 4.
The CDL All-Star Weekend has been announced at the start of the month. However, it wasn’t until Tuesday, May 18, when Activision revealed the names of players who will represent their teams.
The All-Stars will offer an opportunity to celebrate CDL’s best 16 players. That includes two representatives of some of the best teams in the league – Atlanta FaZe, OpTic Chicago, Toronto Ultra, and the Los Angeles Thieves.
Methodz of Toronto Ultra is a player that stands out from that list, considering he hasn’t played an official match for Ultra since March. Despite that, Methodz has been voted in and will have a chance to prove his talent in the 1v1 tournament.
On the other side, the fans will surely be saddened not to see James “Clayster” Eubanks in action. The three-time CoD World Champion has revealed that he will not be able to take part in the weekend event.
Clayster will spend the weekend visiting his family and will get replaced by his teammate HyDra. The latter has made his professional debut in October 2020 and has since established himself as one of the most talented players in the esports scene.
Another significant exclusion from the All-Star event is the 2020 1v1 champion McArthur “Cellium” Jovel of Atlanta FaZe. He wasn’t invited to the event because each team is limited to only two players – and there are only so many spots the talented FaZe roster can fill.
The 2021 CDL All-Star Weekend will see 16 players face-off in 1v1 gunfights. Players got seeded into pairs of two, where they’ll compete in a single-elimination best-of-three (Bo3) bracket.
All players representing their teams have been voted in by the fans, players, coaches, and casters. The Fan Voting selected the first 12 players, while players, coaches, and casters picked the remaining four.
The 2021 All-Stars will also feature a 4v4 Caster Draft Tournament. It will see prominent CoD esports figures in Miles “Miles” Ross, Thomas “Chance” Ashworth, Anthony “Nameless” Wheeler, and Jeremy “StuDyy” Astacio each pick a four-person team from the pool of 16 All-Star Pros.
These four teams will then battle it out in a 4v4 single-elimination bracket across Control, Search&Destroy, and Hardpoint.
Even though there are no esports betting odds offered on the 1v1 CDL All-Stars event at the moment, that shouldn’t discourage you from taking some time off and enjoy the spectacle.
The CDL All-Stars will begin on Saturday, May 22, with the first round of the 1v1 Gunfight competition. After that, the fans will get to enjoy the first two rounds of the 4v4 Caster Draft Tournament.
Sunday, May 23, will begin with the 4v4 Caster Draft Finals between Saturday’s winning teams. Upon the conclusion of the finals, the remaining eight players will play out the last rounds of the 1v1s.
