ESL brings Dota 2 Major to LA in 2020

ESL has announced it will debut a Dota 2 Major in Downtown Los Angeles next year with a lofty $1,000,000 prize pool.

The world’s largest esports company will be hosting ESL One Los Angeles at the historic Shrine Auditorium in Downtown LA March 20-22. This will be the first time ESL has hosted a Dota 2 tournament on the West Coast. Furthermore, it will be the first Dota 2 Major in the United States in almost four years. The total prize pool for the event currently sits at $1,000,000. A total of 15,000 Dota Pro Circuit points will held ransom by ESL One Los Angeles for teams heading towards The International.

ESL One Los Angeles is the third out of five Majors for the Dota 2 Pro Circuit. To qualify, teams will have to battle their way through three phases of online qualifiers which will take place on February 9-14. From there, only 16 teams will advance and have to continue competing on March 14 through 19 for their chance to make it to the main stage. The final is slated to take place on the big stage at the Shrine Auditorium from March 20-22.

ESL chose LA in order to emphasize this event’s entertainment value while connecting to the Dota 2 community.

“Los Angeles is known for world class entertainment and that is exactly what we aim to deliver with the L.A. Major” Ulrich Schulze, Senior Vice President of Product at ESL commented and finished by saying: “We are finally bringing our ESL Dota 2 flagship competition to the US West Coast for the first time and we are proud to deliver world-class Dota 2 action to the local community.”
