ESL One Hamburg to host Clash of Clans World Championship

ESL has announced that the Clash of Clans World Championship will be played on the main stage at this years ESL One Hamburg.

The tournament is to be held prior to the Dota 2 matches live on stage on each of the three main event days starting on October 25. The tournament will see a US$ 1 million prize pool up for grabs.

Mobile esports is by far not just a trend, but already shaping the industry noticeably.” said, Ulrich Schulze, Senior Vice President of Product at ESL. “Mobile games have become an indispensable part of esports already and we are proud to support this new segment on all levels, from zero to hero.”

During the playoffs, six of the world’s best Clash of Clans teams plus two wildcard winners will head to the World Championship. Teams had to previously qualify themselves by joining the competition in-game or via ESL Play, with the two wildcard winners being chosen by the COC community.

“Clash of Clans players have been honing their skills for more than seven years, and now they’ll have the chance to compete on a global stage for the title of Best Clash of Clans Clan in the world.” added, Eino Joas, Clash of Clans Game Lead at Supercell. “We strive to create games that our players enjoy for years and years, and we’ve partnered with ESL, who has an incredible track record in producing esports tournaments, to create an all-new competitive experience for our community so they have new ways to play, watch and join in on the fun of Clash of Clans.”

ESL One Hamburg will see twelve Dota 2 teams go head-to-head from October 25-27 for the majority of a $300,000 prize pool. Eight teams will receive direct invites and four teams from Europe/CIS, North America, China and South Asia will earn their spot through regional qualifiers. Previous events have seen OG, Virtus.pro and Team Secret all take home the trophy.
