IEM Katowice 2020 CS:GO Final Stages Preview

One of the biggest esports events of the year, ESL’s Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2020, is in the full swing and in just two days we will find out the names of this year’s CS:GO and StarCraft II champions! There is a weekend full of exciting matches and irresistible betting opportunities ahead of us, so take a seat and prepare for the final phase of 7th edition of IEM in Katowice, Poland.

As IEM is arguably one of the biggest events in CS:GO calendar, it is obvious that competition here is no joke. All 16 teams that have competed for a $500,000 prize pool share are within world’s top 30. Ten of these were invited and the remaining six teams fought their way to the main event via worldwide qualifiers. Now, only four have left and there are some unexpected names amongst the final composition.

There is no surprise about Current No. 1 team on the planet Astralis, being backed by bookies as clear favorite of the tournament. They won five out of seven finals in 2019 and it seems that they are trying to repeat last year’s success from IEM, where they haven’t lost a single match. After three 2-0 wins in group stages, they are going straight to Bo3 single-elimination semi finals with Natus Vincere, who has got to playoffs by winning loser’s bracket. The team that was at the beginning quite far from being a favorite, has secured a way home for FaZe, one of the favored teams with high expectations from bookmakers and fans. They have also sent home Team Liquid in playoffs.

Astralis will meet Natus Vincere on Saturday Feb. 29, 18:55 CET, in the second semi-final match of the day. The odds here show a clear winning for the match, with Astralis (1.5) vs Natus Vincere (2.51) (odds provided by GG.bet).

A better-than-expected performance showed rising team G2, that is, just as Astralis, on 3 win streak and even sent the second favorite of the tournament, mousesports to loser’s brackets. In Bo3 single-elimination semi finals, G2 will face swedish team Fnatic, who entered the contest just one place above G2 in outright rankings. Up till now, they have lost only one match with Astralis, which is a solid justification for anybody.

The first semi final match is scheduled on Saturday Feb. 29, 15:00 CET and it’s going to be close, with odds 1.7 for Fnatic and 2.1 for G2 (odds provided by GG.bet).

The last two teams standing will battle over champion title and a reward of $250,000 in Bo5 grand final on Sunday, 17:00 CET.
