The Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) Season X – Spring: North American Major is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, May 22. The tournament will feature 10 of the best Rocket League teams from the region competing for the lion’s share of the $100,000 prize pool and the coveted RLCS Circuit Ranking Points.
The RLCS Season X – Spring: North American Major will feature only the top-10 teams from the NA Rocket League esports scene. The field will consist of the top-nine teams on the Spring ladder and one Wildcard team.
Entering the event are Rogue, Spacestation Gaming, Shopify Rebellion, Team Envy, Team General NRG, G2 Esports, Susquehanna Soniqs, FaZe Clan, Version1, and XSET.
The first eight have earned this spot at the Major due to their placement on the RLCS Season X NA Spring Rankings. Meanwhile, Version1 and XSET had to reach their place at the tournament via other routes.
Version1 locked in 470 RLCS Ranking Points this split, which was good for a ninth-place on the NA ladder. That would have earned them a direct bye to the event had they not been tied with Ghost Gaming.
Since the NA Spring Major accepts nine directly invited teams, Ghost Gaming and Version1 had to battle it out in the tiebreaker match. They produced a nail-biting affair that went seven maps.
Version1 eventually edged out a win with an overtime goal on Champions Field. They won the map 3-2 and sealed the series at 4-3.
XSET earned their spot at the Major by finishing fifth in the RLCS Season X – Spring: The Grid NA. Although they did not manage to win the tournament, XSET were the highest-placed team out of those who have yet to qualify for the Major with regional points.
The RLCS Season X Spring NA Major will kick off on Saturday, May 22, with the group play. The teams got divided into two groups of five, where they’ll compete in a best-of-five (Bo5) Round Robin.
The teams will face off against each other only once, allowing the group stage to play out in one day. The group play will begin at 10:00 a.m. PDT and conclude with the fifth and final round, scheduled to kick off at 1:20 p.m.
After the conclusion of the group stage, the top four teams from each group advance into the playoffs. The bottom two teams get eliminated and sent home with a $3,000 consolation prize each.
The playoffs will kick off on Sunday, May 23, with the quarter-finals at 10:00 a.m. PDT, followed by the semi-finals at 2:00 p.m. and the grand finals at 4:00 p.m. on the same day.
All RLCS Season X NA Spring Major playoffs bouts will be played as best-of-seven (Bo7). That includes the grand finals.
Like the European Spring Major, the North American RLCS Major will feature a $100,000 prize pool. The money will get split between all participating teams, with $36,000 reserved for the champions.
Besides the tournament winnings, the teams will also compete the coveted RLCS Ranking Points based on their final placement. These count towards the RLCS X Championship event.
The RLCS Season X – Spring: North American Major will kick off with four group stage bouts played simultaneously. Although that will make it difficult to follow all the action at once, it will offer plenty of betting opportunities for esports bettors.
Some may prefer to get their hands on early outright odds. However, with so many elite teams in the field, it might be challenging to pick out the winner.
Odds courtesy of BetOnline Sportsbook:
Version 1 (+1400) narrowly made it to the Major; however, they’re not one of the underdogs at the tournament. Although Version1 are not one of the favorites either, they’re still priced at shorter odds than teams who are higher-rated than them.
That isn’t too shocking considering their solid form. Not only have Version1 outperformed the likes of FaZe (+1500) and Susquehanna Soniqs (+2000) but also went toe-to-toe with Rogue (+900) and the tournament favorites NRG (+250).
G2 Esports (+800) stand out as the fourth favorite to win the title despite sitting in sixth on the NA RLCS rankings. They might have had some iffy showings of late, but G2 consistently do well against NA’s top dogs, and that likely won’t change this weekend.
Will one of the underdogs outshine the favorites, or will the top dogs justify their short price on the betting markets is anyone’s guess. What we do know, however, is that we’re in for an exciting weekend of Rocket League.
