The top 10 US states for finding a job in esports
Hitmarker Jobs, a leading esports and gaming centric job board, has released their annual jobs report. The report is full of insights, ranging from levels of seniority to geographic locations; all powered by the statistics behind their platform.
Launched in 2017, Hitmarker have quickly become the de facto source for esports jobs, ranging from volunteer roles at grassroots esports teams all the way up to Directors at Twitch and Microsoft. If you’re on the market for a role, then we’d definitely advise checking them out! You may have even seen a couple of Sickodds roles listed of the years.
In this first post of a short series, we’ll be looking mainly at where in the US companies and startups are hiring. We’ve broken down the top 10 states below:
What’s in California?
California is, by far, the esports hub of the United States, with just shy of 8x as many jobs as the second most popular US state. The are a wide range of tech startups, let alone esports / gaming startups, in California thanks mostly to Silicon Valley in San Jose, California. We’ve scoured through the current Hitmarker Jobs listings for California to find some of the best that California has to offer.
Twitch (currently 144 listings)
If you’re even remotely interested in games, then you’ll have heard of, and most likely used, Twitch. With a constant need for more engineers, marketing and partnership managers there is no shortage of roles in their seemingly endless expansion. Their acquisition by Amazon has just fuelled this fire and they continue to grow at an alarming rate.
Riot Games (currently 99 listings)
Riot Games, the publisher behind the Tier 1 esports title League of Legends, has offices all over the world. With the growing success of the esports scene and recent opening of the UK office, there is plenty of need for employees from all backgrounds.
Blizzard Entertainment (currently 34 listings)
It wouldn’t be fair to mention Riot Games without their Dota 2 counterpart, Blizzard. With many of their job listings focussed on IT and tech roles to ensure their events and services run smoothly, they’re definitely worth contacting for the geekier amongst us.
Team Liquid (currently 2 listings)
Senior roles in world class organisations are harder to come by as funding is usually much more bootstrapped when compared to giants like Twitch. With a recent successful funding round and an incredible partnership with Marvel, Team Liquid are going from strength to strength, bringing in a world class team around them.
Team Liquid are currently hunting for a Director of Global Commerce though, so if you think you can be the new “g2esports.com/shop” meme then maybe it’s worth applying!
