UK esports organisation and recent addition to the LEC line-up exceL Esports have announced their brand new League of Legends facilities will be established at the Twickenham Stadium in South West London.
Twickenham Stadium is best known as being the home of English rugby, but has also been utilized as the venue for concerts, large-scale conferences and a number of recent high-profile NFL matches. The facilities at the venue are state-of-the-art, and this expansion into esports facilitation shows their forward thinking to appeal to emerging markets.
Alongside the press release exceL released a behind the scenes announcement video onto their YouTube channel, giving the management a chance show off the impressive location and also to explain their decision to move away from the traditional gaming house model.
Unfortunately this video has been subsequently removed due to undisclosed reasons, though we’ve been assured that everything is still going ahead as planned.
From an interview at Esports Insider, “The players and staff will have access to gym facilities, on-site catering, sport science and sports psychologists which are becoming increasingly popular in esports as the margins between victory and defeat become narrower and narrower given quality of competition. The location will have specific rooms for players to play, as well as rooms for VoD reviews and strategy and space for all 10 players on the exceL roster to come together and share opinion and grow as a team.”
Additionally, Joel Holmes-Darby, Director of Esports at exceL Esports, told Esports Insider: “We are incredibly excited to have announced the opening of our new training facility at Twickenham Stadium. The location and infrastructure will allow us to create the best possible environment in which to develop and nurture world class professional esports athletes. It will also serve as a home to our ever-expanding staff team and we hope that Twickenham Stadium will become as synonymous with British Esports as it is with English Rugby”.
With these sterling facilities in place for the players at such a prestigious venue it will surely help in their foray into the world of professional esports, being elevated from their current position as one of the UK’s premier esports organisations.
To look the part alongside their new facilities and LEC status, exceL have revealed their new brand across their social accounts ahead of the upcoming League of Legends Spring Split. The brand has a much cleaner and professional feel, darkening their existing colour set, whilst still incorporating their existing chevron-ic trademark shapes.
All-in-all we’re excited to see how the team at exceL do in the coming split and how they adapt to the bigger stage.
