Atlanta Reign announce additions to their Overwatch League Roster

One of the eight new teams to join the new season of Overwatch League is the Atlanta Reign. The franchise is owned by Cox Enterprises, a leading communication, media and automotive services company based in the US.

Atlanta Reign has unveiled their roster, or at least a part of it, ahead of their involvement for Season 2. The video reveal is a well-crafted production which shows the players joining the team. The biggest addition to the team is Daniel ‘Dafran’ Francesca, one of the best Hitscan players in the Overwatch League. He made a name for himself during his time on Selfless Gaming, however his in-game behaviour and persona led to an official punishment resulting in him being banned from all competitions until now.

Dafran’s ban during 2017 saw the player wanting to go back to his previous full-time job at McDonald’s, but he still continued streaming Overwatch and is currently one of the most popular Overwatch streamers on Twitch. There is no doubt of the player’s in-game skill, but it will be very interesting to see how he copes in the team environment and more specifically how his in-game attitude has evolved. Blizzard has already taken action against the player before and further misconduct would warrant a more severe penalty and could see him permanently struck from the Overwatch League.

In addition to Dafran, the video also reveals other players joining the team. Hyun-Jun “Pokpo” Park (main tank) and Dong-Hyeong “Daco” Seo join the team from Element Mystic. They were a crucial part of Element Mystic’s aggressive play and have excellent coordination with each other. As long as the support players can find synergy with this duo, Atlanta Reign should have the crux of their team in synergy and will be a force to be reckoned with.

The Atlanta Reign

Atlanta is placed in the Atlantic Region which is arguably one of the toughest regions in the Overwatch League. They are a team that is entirely made up of rookies for now, though extremely talented rookies at that, whilst every other expansion team has announced at least one professional from Season 1. The Atlanta team does not lack firepower nor cohesion within the team, and the tank duo will be crucial to maintaining the synergy on the front lines early in the season.

For now, this roster looks extremely strong. They have the potential to be a top-tier team, however the role of the coach is crucial on this roster to bring the team together. With Dafran known to be impulsive, it is important to maintain a very composed approach to the game.

Overwatch league season 2 starts on February 14, 2019 and we can’t wait to witness the action.
