DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 Kicks-off on April 29

DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 will begin on Thursday, April 29, with 16 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams in attendance. The tournament will feature $250,000 in the prize pool that will be spread between the top 12 teams.

DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 Format

DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 will kick off on April 29 with the group stage. The first stage of the competition will run until Saturday, May 1.

After that, the top six teams will have a week to get ready for the playoffs. Those will begin on May 7 and conclude on Sunday, May 9, with the grand finals.

The group stage will use a double-elimination format, with eight teams per group. The opening matches will be played as best-of-one (Bo1), while all the succeeding will be played as Bo3.

The upper bracket finalists, as well as the winners of the lower bracket, will then advance into the playoffs. There, the top teams will duke it out for the title and the grand prize of $100,000 and 1000 Pro Tour points.

As revealed by the organizers, the group stage winners will receive a direct bye into the semi-finals. Group stage runners-up will advance into the quarter-finals as the high seeds.

The lower bracket winners will advance into the playoffs as the third seed. They will be placed into the quarter-finals as a lower-seeded team.

Playoffs will use a single-elimination bracket. The quarter-finals and semi-finals matches will be Bo3, while the grand finals will be Bo5.

DreamHack Masters Spring Groups Draw Already out

The DreamHack Masters Spring group stage draw got unveiled two weeks before the tournament kicks off. As revealed by the event organizers on Thursday, April 15, the draw will look as follows:

Group A

  • Gambit Esports
  • Team Fiend
  • Team Spirit
  • G2 Esports
  • Natus Vincere
  • mousesports
  • FaZe Clan
  • Virtus.pro

Group B

  • Astralis
  • Extra Salt
  • Complexity
  • Team Vitality
  • FURIA Esports
  • BIG
  • paiN Gaming
  • Heroic

What might not seem like a random draw has placed all four CIS representatives in Group A. Those include Natus Vincere, Team Spirit, Gambit, and Virtus.pro.

While Group A regional brawl unfolds, the three international rosters in mousesports, FaZe, and G2 will look to spoil the party.

Group B will see two pairs of international teams duke it out between each other. Fighting alongside the Danish duo of Astralis and Heroic will be two Brazilian representatives in FURIA and paiN Gaming.

Joining the two pairs are Vitality, Complexity, BIG, and Extra Salt, who will fight for their spot in the playoffs.

Heroic as the Main Favourites to Go All the Way

As the current world no.3 team in the world and the reigning ESL Pro League Season 13 champions, Heroic (+350), enter DreamHack Masters Spring as the main favorites to win the title. Priced close behind are the reigning IEM Katowice champions Gambit (+400).

The Danish juggernauts Astralis (+450) and 2020 IEM Katowice champions Natus Vincere (+500) are priced as the third and fourth favorites to go all the way. Rounding up the top-six favorites are Virtus.pro (+600) and Complexity (+800).

Entering the tournament as underdogs are Team Spirit (+1100), Team Vitality (+1300), FURIA (+1400), and G2 Esports (+1500). Sitting well below the three are FaZe Clan (+2300), BIG (+2500), and mousesports (+2400), who will need to step up to show they’re capable of competing with the top dogs.

Last but not least, we have paiN Gaming (+6000), Extra Salt (+10000), and Fiend (+25000) as three of the least likely teams to succeed. These teams are ranked 26th, 23rd, and 56th in the world and are by far the weakest teams in the field.

DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 is one of the most stacked CS:GO tournaments of the year, featuring nine out of the top-10 teams in the world. The only team from the top-10 that is missing is Team Liquid.
