Excel Esports welcomes YoungBuck as Head Coach

Excel Esports have announced the appointment of Joey ‘YoungBuck’ Steltenpool as their new League of Legends Head Coach.

YoungBuck has a pretty impressive resume. He is a six time European champion, and was previously the League of Legends Head Coach for Fnatic and G2 Esports. Under YoungBuck’s leadership, each team has topped the LEC leaderboard over the past 3 years. He’s also taken both Fnatic and G2 Esports to the Worlds stage, but has fallen short of making it to the finals each time.

YoungBuck’s appointment as Head Coach comes after Excel parted ways with both David ‘DLim’ Lim and Alec ‘Baby Zeus’ Warren, as Head Coach and Strategic Coach respectively.

Asked about the upcoming LEC season, Joey ‘YoungBuck’ Steltenpool had the following to say:

“I am very excited to join Excel. As a relatively new organisation to the LEC, with many young and talented players, I feel like this is the best place for me to use my experience and ability in regard to developing talent. I hope to help Excel grow and become a powerhouse team in the LEC.”

Excel struggled in their inaugural LEC season as would be expected for any team fresh to the franchise, but we’re excited to see how an experienced influence can harness the rosters potential. The team finished in a disappointing 9th and 10th in the 2019 Spring and Summer Splits respectively.

Individually the Excel League of Legends roster, including Send0o, Expect and Kasing, have exceptional potential. With YoungBuck putting his experience to work, we hope to see better in-game choices and gelling that will help turn some L’s into W’s.

The next season of LEC will start in Spring 2020 after an off-season of training for the roster.

At the start of the LEC 2020 Spring Split we hope that sportbooks haven’t caught this change in management and will still offer Excel at their higher odds. Hit some high underdog lines against middle of the pack teams and try to catch a few Match Winner markets before they catch their mistake.
