League of Legends World Championship Tournament Update

Recap:

This is one of the biggest weekends for League of Legends, and after this weekend the League of Legends World Championships will advance to the next round, the quarterfinals. October 10th and 11th will be the final days of group play, then there will be a short break prior to the opening of the next round. Thursday, October 15th, is when the quarterfinals will begin.

There are still some huge matchups slated to take place before the weekend is over. Currently sitting atop Group A is Suning, with a record of 5-2. In 2nd place is G2 Esports at 4-3, then Team Liquid at 3-3, and in last place, Machi Esports at 1-5. Damwon Gaming is leading the way in Group B right now with only 1 loss and 5 wins! JD Gaming is right behind them, having 4 wins and 2 losses. In 3rd place is PSG Talon at 2-4 and in last is Rogue, at 1-5.

Upcoming:

Group C and D will be playing on the 10th and 11th so their records are not as complete as the other 2 groups, A and B. The 3-way tie between Gen.G, Fnatic, and LGD Gaming in Group C will be key to watch in terms of seeding and matchups for the quarterfinals, so much is at stake and they will each play each other this weekend. TSM is the other team in this group but they are still winless with 3 losses. These teams will all be competing for their survival in the tournament this weekend, be sure to check it out.

Group D is in a different situation, in 1st place sits Top Esports at 3-0 which makes them the only undefeated team remaining in the entire tournament. In 2nd place is DRX, at 2-1, they will be looking to knock Top Esports off and take over the top spot this weekend for sure. In 3rd place is FlyQuest at 1-2, they are still on the fringe and will be looking to sweep their upcoming games this weekend in order to better their record. Unicorns of Love is in 4th place, winless with 3 losses; they will need a monumental effort to stay in contention but even if they win-out, they’ll only be .500 at 3-3.

Once the next round begins, it will be one series matchup per day, with each series being played in a best of 5 format. This format will be carried out for 4 days, ending on Sunday, October 18th. After this, there will be another break and the semifinals will begin the following weekend, on Saturday, October 24th. The Championship will cap off the tournament at the end of the month on October 31st.
