The upcoming LoL EMEA Masters Summer Split 2024 will be using a new tournament format. This decision from Riot Games was made after feedback from the League of Legends community to make changes to give more chances to EMEA teams to compete at the international stage.
One of the major changes for this year’s EMEA Masters tournament is the number of participants. This year, the tournament is increasing the number of participants – a total of 60 teams will be able to compete in the EMEA Masters. This will include pro teams from the LEC, LFL, Prime League, Superliga, TCL, Arabian League, LIT, NLC, GLL, Ultraliga, LPLOL, EBL, HM Summer, Elite Series, and LCQ.
As for the tournament proper, the EMEA Masters will introduce the Swiss stage for the first time. The Swiss stage is similar to what Riot Games had implemented during last year’s Worlds, replacing the previous Group stage format.
Using the Swiss stage format means increased volatility in terms of which teams would come out to acquire the available spots, but it also increases the stakes of the matches since teams with the same score will be clashing against one another.
The revamped format sees each accredited ERL receiving six slots: the top three will gain direct entry to the Swiss Stage while the remaining three teams will have to through the Last Chance Qualifiers (LCQ). Non-accredited ERLs, instead, will secure four slots.
The Last Chance Qualifiers will take place between July 31 and August 2. To avoid internal conflicts, there will be regional protection put in place, with Bo3 matches happening in the first rounds and a Bo5 match to decide the qualification of the teams for the Swiss stage. Four teams will be determined during the Last Chance Qualifiers which will join the Swiss stage and the main event of the EMEA Masters.
After the participating teams have been settled, the Swiss Stage will take place on August 5 and go until August 13. 32 teams will compete in the Swiss stage: 28 direct qualifications and 4 teams from the LCQ.

Teams need to secure four wins in order to advance to the playoffs while the teams with four losses will be eliminated. All matches are going to be Bo1 except qualification and elimination rounds. These will be decided in Bo3 bouts.
Following the Swiss stage, the winning teams will then be slotted into the Playoffs stage. The Playoffs will take place on August 15 to 22, and it will see the top 16 teams compete in grueling best-of-five single elimination matches. The finals will be on August 30 in Munich, Germany, where two LEC teams who manage to come out of the playoffs will face off against one another to determine the LEC champion.
