The KeSPA Cup 2024 concluded over the weekend, and after a number of days of high-level League of Legends matches, the two teams that clashed for the championship were OKSavingsBank BRION and Dplus KIA.
In a competitive best-of-5 series, OKSavingsBank BRION were on point and gave Dplus KIA a run for their money. At the end of it all, OKSavingsBank BRION came out on top.
Along with the championship, OKSavingsBank BRION won $28,065.24, and Dplus KIA’s second place finish was rewarded with $14,032.62.
Meanwhile, Hanwha Life Esports and Gen.G’s third and fourth place finish netted them with $7,016.31 each.
Here is a quick rundown of the different stages of KeSPA Cup 2024:
The Swiss Stage continues the best-of-1 format, and four teams will emerge from the brackets as the final teams that will battle in the semifinals.
Round 1 of the Swiss Stage saw DRX get routed by Nongshim RedForce, 1-0 in the first match. This was followed by KT Rolster defeating Hanwha Life Esports, 1-0. Meanwhile, Dplus KIA defeated Chinese Taipei Allstars, and Gen.G Esports beat OK BRION, 1-0.
With Gen.G defeating OK BRION, they secured their spot in the Playoff semifinals, and waited for the conclusion of the Swiss Stage.
For Round 2, Dplus KIA battled OK BRION, with the latter coming away with the victory, and nabbing the second spot in the semifinals. The Chinese Taipei Allstars battled against KT Rolster and managed to win, while Hanwha Life defeated Nongshim RedForce.
Round 3 saw Dplus KIA facing off against Chinese Taipei Allstars, with the former securing the third spot in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Hanwha Life continued their winning streak by defeating KT Rolster.
Round 4 had Hanwha Life battle Chinese Taipei Allstars for the final spot in the semifinals. At the end of the match, Hanwha Life beat Chinese Taipei Allstars and clinched the last semifinals spot.
The KeSPA Cup 2024 semifinals are a series of best-of-3 matches between the four teams, and only two teams can emerge from this bracket and move on to the finals.OK BRION was set to face Hanwha Life Esports, while Dplus KIA battled Gen.G Esports.
The first semifinal match was between OK BRION and Hanwha Life Esports. This was a back-and-forth match that saw the first game being the longest at 38:54, while the succeeding games clocked in at 32:23 and 33:20, respectively.
Game 1 saw OK BRION get the win, meanwhile Hanwha Life Esports bounced back in Game 2. The deciding Game 3 saw OK BRION run it back and take the win against Hanwha Life Esports. With their victory, OK BRION punched in their ticket to the finals.
Dplus KIA faced off against Gen.G for the second semifinal match. Similar to the first semifinals match, Dplus KIA versus Gen.G went the distance and took 3 games to see which team would advance to the finals.
Game 1 had Gen.G draw first blood against Dplus KIA after a 39:42 slugfest. However, Dplus KIA managed to get back on track by evening the matchup at 1-1 after winning Game 2 in 27:54 of action. The deciding Game 3 saw Dplus KIA rout Gen.G in under 27 minutes of action to advance to the Grand Finals.
For the Grand Finals, OK BRION and Dplus KIA faced off against each other in a best-of-5 series.
OK BRION was first on the board as they beat Dplus KIA in Game 1 after 27:27 of action. Not deterred, Dplus KIA ran it back and evened the series 1-1 in Game 2 by defeating OK BRION in 26:35.
However, OK BRION was riding a big wave of momentum and managed to wrestle the lead from their finals opponents 2-1 in a 36:58 slugfest. With the game on the line, Dplus KIA pulled out all the stops in Game 4, while OK BRION was poised to defeat their enemies one more time and win the championship.
After a long 42:26 game, OK BRION managed to best Dplus KIA. Once the dust settled, OK BRION was the last team standing and holding the KeSPA Cup 2024 championship.
